I am in the process of swapping out the FSB from my Norinco CQ 5.56 and replacing it with a A.R.M.S. 41 Folding Front Sight with integral gas block. The issue is with the gas tube, the main gas port hole as well as the pin retaining holes on the Norinco gas tube do not line up with the ARMS holes, they as misaligned by approx. 3/16". So do I just order a new gas tube or would it be possible to enlarge/elongate the gas tube hole to accommodate the opening in the ARMS gas block?

If I enlarge/elongate the gas port hole am I effecting the performance of the gas system? The tube is a very tight fit right now, as a matter of fact I have to sand it down just to get into the ARMS gas block.

Ok next question, if I am to get a new gas tube, anyone know who has them in stock in Western Canada? I don't want to wait 5-7 business days to get one from ArmsEast (Sorry Walter - items from Montreal are taking 5 days, I can only imagine NFLD would be a few days longer)

Thanks!

I'm just thrilled to be mentioned. :)

Beyond that though, I don't think I quite understand the question. The gas port on the barrel and the gas port in the new front sight are not in the same place when the sight is in place? (ie, the gas from the barrel wouldn't vent into the front sight)? If so, are you asking if you can drill the gas port on the barrel out to "reach" the hole on the new front sight?

I think if you have to drill anything, it would be the gas port on the front sight. The port in the barrel will regulate the gas, the port in the sight just lets it flow to the gas tube, and would be less critical as long as its opening is over the barrels gas port in some way.

Ok, Here is a picture of the gas tube looking from the bottom.

The problem is either the gas port hole lines up with the hole in the gas block OR the retention holes line up with the holes in the gas block.

The gas block itself is a clamp on style, no there is no problem lining the gas port holde on with the hole in the barrel.

Anyone have any suggestions? Maybe the CQ gas tube is no exactly spec, and simply replacing it with another US manufactures gas tube will allow me to line both the gas port hole and the retention holes with the A.R.M.S. #41 front sight/gas block

Get a new gas tube. The ARMs # 41 would be made to standard north american specs, as would a new tube. Should fit together fine. No telling how close to spec the CQ is in some of the small details like this. Besides, tubes are cheep.
