So after a few years of tinkering around with almost every conceivable black rifle accessory out there, I figured I'd post a few of my favourites and the reasons therein. Please feel free to agree, disagree or share any of your own!
..........

Flash Hiders, Brakes, Compensators
I was fortunate to find devices that worked great from the outset, so I've had to experiment very little in this area. Anything by AAC (flash hider or muzzle brake) is absolutely excellent. For SBR ARs, either the PWS CQB or Hera-Arms Linear compensators work great.

BUIS
Troy, Troy, Troy. Quality, durability and ease of installation. While I like the Magpul MBUS and that they've made some improvements, the Gen2 version is an absolute PITA to slide onto any rail.

Attachments
Gear Sector. From the hand stop to the light mounts to the QD, hook and standard sling mounts.

Rail Covers
Ladder rail protectors, LaRue index clips and the rubberized UTG covers. Mainly because they're all fairly low-profile and provide an excellent gripping surface, although I'm waiting to see if Magpul's upgraded XTM panels renew my interest. I found that many of the others are a PITA to install (raise, grasp, slide, etc.) and usually increased the diameter of the rail to the point where it kind of defeated the purpose.

Triggers
Geissele SSA or SSE (haven't tried the SSE, but apparently it rocks!) Once you go Geissele - you'll never shoot a stock AR trigger again!

Pins
KNS anti-rotation pins. Mainly because they make it an almost seamless process taking anything apart or upgrading your trigger.

Selector
BAD A.S.S. Available in 45° or 90° versions, you can change out the selector levers from a standard, stubby or thin on either side with an allen wrench. Very, very slick. I'm going to also stick Magpul's BAD ambi bolt release here as well. It's invaluable.

Charging Handles
BCM/Vltor Gunfighter Mod4, PRI Gasbuster. The BCM is more rigid, but I like the gas/venting features on the PRI.

Grips
Magpul's new MOE+ gets my vote. I'm also a fan of the CAA modular grip because you can change the front and backplates out.

Trigger Guard
Magpul enhanced trigger guard (prefer the aluminium).

Stocks
Magpul CTR or UBR with enhanced stock pad. The CTR over the MOE because it has a locking feature and the QD sling mount. The UBR is the quintessential indestructible stock. I like it because it tends to balance out firearms that tend to be barrel heavy.

Extension tubes
I really like the PWS enhanced tube. It's far easier to install, very strong and features grooved channels for drainage. Also features an integrated QD sling mount, so I prefer this over a Noveske or Magpul ASAP.

Buffers
Spike's Tactical ST-T2 heavy buffer or the Enidine hydraulics, although I'm still fine-tuning spring length to get these to work optimally. Still, felt recoil is non-existent.

Slings
Vickers-Blueforce Gear and Urban-ERT. Vickers have a very high quality, but I like the modular aspect with the Urban-ERT (buy one sling, multiple attachment points).

Some other little odds 'n ends that I really like: Brownell's (not Z-M) Accu-Wedge (eliminate excess play between the upper/lower receiver), the Double-Star Twang Buster (exactly what it sounds like) and the M16 Buffer Pads (purely aesthetic, and prevents the carrier from marring your buffer face).

Magazines
Just for sheer "fun", the LAR-15 pistol magazines with the aluminium couplers. If run single, Magpul L or Ranger plates (the rubberized L-plates are particular nice for dropping, as they provide a nice, absorbent base for impacts). I also replace the stock followers with the foliage green Magpul ones. The only reason is because they hold 10/20 rounds. Otherwise, insofar as magazines go - they kinda suck.

My favourite magazines are the HK steel/maritime 30-rounders. If we could legally run 30 rounds this is all I'd use. Loading rounds is like placing them into butter... Beyond that, I like the Lancer L5 Advanced Warfighter - although we really don't get to use the translucent feature to it's full benefit @ only 5 rounds (#$%@#$%@). The new Magpul M3 MagLevel (windowed) PMAG could be awesome, since they addressed all the STANAG issues and other minor gripes.

Mounts
LaRue. Need we say more? My Trijicon and Elcan come with an ARMS setup, and those are pretty good, too.

Optics
Aimpoint, EOTech, Trijicon. The big 3. The Aimpoint Micro is just the sweetest red dot out there, any of the EOTech HWS are fantastic (especially with a magnifier) and the Trijicon ACOG is probably the best fixed 4x you can have. I also like the Elcan SpecterDR with the 1-4x ability, although it's a tad on the heavy side.

I'm on the fence of getting an AR or something like it (XCR).

But what about magazines? What your take on those?
I understand theres Magpul and LAR and then theres other brands.

Thanks

My must have, the Magpul Enhanced Trigger Guard (Aluminum). Nice smooth surface to cover the 'gap' to protect against long day finger 'ow'. The best $20 accessory, IMO.

Grips: Magpul MOE+ & Ergo Grip.

I think magazines are more finicky & "individual"...

You can pull 5 of the same ones of the store shelf, & one or all of them may or may not function properly.

The rifle being used can also play a factor in this equation...

Generally speaking though, word-on-the-street has it that every Pmag works.

:yingyang:

Pretty solid roundup of accessories...I'd like to add ATRS Eliminator for FH, for Geissele triggers it depends on what your plan for the AR15 is (I have the SSA, SSA-E, and HS-DMR...wouldn't mind trying the S3G)...for those on a budget try ALG Combat or Spikes Battle Trigger, Same can be said for the stock...I like Magpul stuff..lets not forget the PRS for precision work. That's pretty much the only others I'd mention over what's been pointed out already.

I prefer the plastic version of the trigger guard...you can move it around a little on a gun that's slightly out of spec.

Trigger Guard
+1 to the Magpul aluminium trigger guard (knew I was forgetting something).

Damn you blaxsun!!! I just got my ar and a few accessories and I thought I was good to go. Now the shopping list has grown again! :)

No problem. ;)

Well, as indicated - you'll want at least a few LARs just so you can legally shoot 10 rounds. It's literally twice as much fun as it sounds like. :D PMAGs are pretty much the standard. Virtually indestructible and very reliable.

In terms of the accessories, if you're thinking about an XCR the majority of the components (with the exception of the AR-specific internals) are good to go. That's one reason (in addition to the non-restricted status) that it's fairly popular.

DAMN YOU BLAXSUN!!!!!!!!!!!
Stop adding crap to my shopping list!

Not to worry... I'm sure I forgot one or two things...

Approximate cost of buying all the items you recommend?

$$$... expensive? Realistically, take the cost of your average mid-end lower and expect to double it. Really. My little 7" Dlask has less recoil than a .22LR and is an absolute dream to shoot. Was it all worth the extra $$ that I put into it? Every penny.

The Gear Sector hand stop, BAD A.S.S. safety and BAD lever were all to enhance overall safety and control. The Geissele SSA trigger and Enidine buffer were purely for performance. The PRI Gasbuster was so I could inhale less gas and the LaRue RISR for the CTR stock was simply so I'd stop getting my beard caught between the damn stock and buffer tube every time I had it open. ;)

The rail covers, attachment points, sling, etc. really come down to personal preference. Over time I've evolved from a lot of the 'gadgets' to simpler accessories that tend to either offer some distinct performance advantage, potential feature benefit or weight savings.

10 round LAR mags are my must have. That and a proper mount for your optics, if any. It's hard to shoot well without the right ergonomics and eye relief.
