AR15 optics question.

I just picked up my first shorty 10.5 incher AR. I was planning on just picking up a set of Magpul flip up sights just to use for it. However now that I finally have the rifle home and see the length of the top rail im thinking it might be a little short for flip up sights and I might have to go with a red dot. Can someone set mind at ease here. What is the minimum distance for iron sights on a AR?

I should point out I have about 14.5" of rail length to play with. No A2 front post sight.

Irons can be whatever you can comfortably utilize. Plenty of guys over seas have used a 10.3" barrel MK18 with A2 front sight posts successfully.

How long do you think a compact pistol or revolver sight radius is?

The sight radius on a 10.5" AR with fixed fsb is the same as that ona 14.5" M4 carbine. The sight radius issue is overblown.

Not very long. However I dont shoot pistols out to 100 or 200 meters either.
