I'm fairly new to firearms in general but I'm having a problem with my ar15s bolt carrier as it won't properly lock into place when I try to reassemble the AR. What could be the problem?

ok I'll bite.

Assuming nothing is broken (did you use force at any time? These things should fairly drop together...) just slow down and pay attention to what you're doing.

won't lock into place... hmm... does that mean the 'bolt head' isn't rotating into full lock-up when the bolt carrier group is slid into the upper assembly?

gosh, this is tough to diagnose without pics.... send pics? A better description of what the problem is?

....and then there's youtube, how much you wanna bet the answer is in there. once you find out what the problem was please post what it was here, thanks in advance!

Ensure your firing pin retaining pin is all the way home, also check and ensure your cam pin is in properly,

Phone a friend, bring it to your LGS or range and ask some one there for help.

Lock into place as in you can't slide the BCG into the receiver? Did you pull the bolt all the way forward on the BCG before inserting it? Are you trying to gently slide the BCG all the way in and just a 1/4" or so of the bolt is still sticking out?

I have solved the issue and found it was simply because the retaining pin wasn't fully through. I simply thought I had it in correctly but i have to admit I've never taken apart an ar15 in my life and I should've at least I should have attempted to find a YouTube vid to solve the issue before using CGN. Kind of embarrassing actually. Thanks for the replies!
