Looking for a scope for an AR 15. Would like to have something for close range to long range shooting.

To date I have only used iron sights but am open to ideas?

Most scopes aren't a "true" RDS at one power, the Leupold Mark 6 1X6 is. That said you have to determine what is "long" range for your type of shooting?

Sightron 1-7
Trijicon 1-4
Used Nightforce 1-4 or 2-10
Hi-Lux CMR 1-4
Vortex Viper 1-4
Leupold
For under 200 yards also look at the Aimpoint micro T-1 or H-1 or the EoTech XPS series. You can add a magnifier to either if you really want to but for 200 yards you should be fine ringing the gongs without one.

The options are endless, you need to decide what features you want.
I personally don't find there is much need for illumination for most shooting situations but everyone is different.
Finding a scope that is a true 1 power is nice if you want to do CQB both eyes open stuff.

I've noticed that some of these scopes have ,what appear to be a red dot in the centre of the reticle, if so could this red dot be used at close range the same as a true red dot ? And do the above scopes with Red dots have different MOA dots ...1,2,3,4 MOA etc.? Is there a similar optic that has a option of crosshairs reticle on 2,3,4,5, power ,without the dot? And red dot on 1 power only? Or are we limited to a fixed 4x with a holo piggybacked,, like the HAMR 4

Big Jim Fish over on Snipershide has done a comprehensive review of pretty much all of these 1-whatever type illuminated scopes. Pretty honest and eye opening review. Would be a good read before spending big $'s on something that doesn't do what you thought it would do.
