AR15 Trigger Problem

Hello All

I recently completed my first Ar15 build, and was obviously excited to get to the range to try it out last weekend, but I have encountered a problem.

I tried to search for this but couldn't find any posts on it.

First a little background it is a dlask lower with RRA parts kit and LMT 10.5" complete upper.

The problem is that I fire and the trigger doesn't reset all the way. I fired the first shot and trigger didn't reset so I attempted to put the safety on then the trigger reset. Fired shot 2 and the exact same thing. It only resets the trigger when I try to put the safety on. So after 3 shots I put it away and shot some other things and headed home.

I opened it up at home, but damned if I can figure out the problem. It performs the function test fine.

Any ideas?
 
If your trigger is not resetting, two possibilities exist.

Your hammer is not being cocked due to missing or broken parts, or the carrier is not cycling enough to #### the hammer.

Open the top end and manually move the hammer rearward to see if the hammer hook engages the sear hook to hold the hammer cocked.

Make sure the sear spring is present under the sear. If this spring is missing, the sear will be flopping up and down freely and have no resistance or spring back as you apply pressure pushing it down. If it's broken you could be having sporadic function.

Does the action cycle to chamber another round when fired?

If your bolt and carrier is not traveling back far enough, or at all to #### the hammer after a round is expended, it will not #### your hammer. Make sure a gas tube is present and there aren't any blockages in the gas system. A misaligned gas block, a plugged gas tube, or anything impeding gas flow to cycle the carrier.

My estimation is likely an improperly installed or missing trigger spring, or a missing sear spring under the sear.

If the legs are under the trigger pins, you would experience light hammer strikes. Not much to do with hammer/sear engagements.

The trigger locks back no problem when cocked.

The AR15 has no problems cycling another round or extracting the previous casing.

I think there must be a problem with a spring somewhere as Easy has suggested. I think I will have to remove the trigger compents and reinstall them.
