I want a 223 but am not sure what to buy. Do I go for beautiful riggins like an ar15 project and love it to death or buy a bolt actioned rifle and good scope.....whats the deal? please give me feedback. I only have shot 223 bolt so far. I also love my cz 858 so I not sure what to get...

Well, what do you plan on doing with it? AR15 is a range baby only thanks to the laws, so if you don't do a lot of target shooting, or those types of range games like Service Rifle etc., then it's not much good other than a real nifty dust catcher. LOL

If you want another semi .223 that ISN'T restricted, there's the AR180Bravo of course. Uses AR magazines, and can be pimped up nicely. I have one for sale in the EE right now if you want to see what I mean.

Kinda all depends on what games you want to play with it! :D

Yes i agree buy an AR15, I have almost completed my 20 inch rifle build.
Walter At Arms East is A great guy to deal with.
Stag arms are excellent quality too.

Plus more restricted to piss the Liberals off.:)

AR-15's = addiction. Plain and simple.

They are just too fun. :runaway:

+1 for Walter, Stag and Arms East. I am starting a M16A4 clone with Walters help.

ok maybe i am confused...ar15 is a 223 cal. right?...........i thought there was restricted and non restricted available.....

Any variant of the M16 is considered a restricted firearm, unless it's full automatic, then it's prohibited.

Calibre has nothing to do with legal classification unless you're over 105mm.

You were right ... many years ago. All M-16/Ar-15 variants are presently restricted. ... please don't shoot the messenger.

(ii) Mitchell M-16/22,
(iii) Mitchell CAR-15/22, and
(iv) AP74 Auto Rifle.

The interest part is that the order got it wrong.

The M16 is the military designation given to a variant of AR15 adopted by the US military. THis is backed by detailed documented history.

AR15 is not a variant of M16. M16 is a variant of AR15. AR 15 came way before the military designation "M16" is given. A M16 is an AR that is adopted by the US military - there are only M16, M16E1, M16A1 and M16A2, M16A2 carbine,etc- they are so marked in the lower receiver and are restricted by default if they are semi.

IMHO, the only "M16 variants" are the ones with M16 marked in the receiver - all the rest are just AR15 variants. Other than the one that are specified, all other AR15s with barrels longer than 18.5|" should have been non-restricted.

It is like the Steyr SPP situation. SPP|(prohib) is a semi-variant of the TMP. THerefore, the MP9 being a variant of TMP and that the TP9 being a semi version of MP9 cut off the link between SPP and TP9. IT is the same reason why SG 540 is not prohib becasue it came before SG550.

If one specificly bans the sons of a father, it cannot ban the father, the uncles and the grandfathers with the same rule. It is one of those things people just accept for years, but the wording of the regulation is in fact the other way. I think this is one of those things back in the old days, when the enforcement is not clear and the general public are not critical either.

The ammo prices for .223 do suck.
Last year and THIS years prices for .223 & .45 at La baron near Toronto;
I have more boxes from a few years back aswell.. It's even cheaper..
Im pretty sure 55gr and 62gr were always the same price.. and WINCLEAN .45 was always cheaper than standard 45ACP ammo, i might be wrong..

Oh well, It's the price we all pay!
DON'T LET YOUR AR GO HUNGRY!!! :p

wow...i wont be buying one then...i got restricted lic but I dont think an extreme investment of something legally used so limited would be fun.....i wanted to pluk rodents with it.......so I guess i will research other semis in 223........or is there a better, cheaper firearm? small and zippy....

223 ammo prices suck now, but wait until the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan end; then there will be huge piles of milsurp to be had at, well, milsurp prices.

Well, Canada is supposed to be pulling out in a couple of years, but the US might be there a while yet.

And by the time there's a surplus of .223 ammo, the government will have taken away our AR15's by then anyways!! LOL :D

I am now writing yet another round of letters with my cold, dead hands; you know, the same ones that are clutching my Stag 15L.

Honestly,

I have made it a priority to get all my guns as non-restricted. I would love an AR but as said before ' they are range babies' so kinda pointless unless you live on a range or have a huge peice of land.

Plus there are alot of alternatives that will do the job just fine. If you get a non-restricted Semi then you can toss it in your truck and go anywhere. Why limit yourself?

On the drawback... if the Liberal party gets their way all semis will be restricted or prohibited and as such, all my Non-restricted Semis will be useless.

FYI - Registering your guns was a huge farce! I hope the conservative party will find a way to dump the long gun registry! We really need to trade something for some votes on that. In the long run we will save tax dollars!!!!
