OK, I've been working with my 180 for a while now, good rifle, some quirks to work out, but, hey, it is what it is.

Anyways, I've been noticing that when I'm doing rapid mag changes with the bolt in the closed position, that the mags either do not seat in the mag well properly, or they mis-feed. Better description. Insert mag with bolt open, close bolt, fire 4 rounds, drop mag 1 and slap in mag 2.. Fire 5th round, and one of two things will happen, it will either mis-feed, and I find the mag is not fully seated, or, it will not pick up a round because the mag did not seat in the well at all, and is to low for the bolt to strip a round.

This happens at least 50% of the time on ALL my mags (8). My solution to date has been when I change mags, to hold the magazine in place for the first round coming out of the magazine, then it will pop into place. That's fine I suppose, except, when doing timed matches, you don't need the extra stress of worrying about kit not functioning properly.

Any ideas? Solutions? Anyone else even have this problem??

If I understand this, this issue is locking mag with bolt closed. Sounds like the mag was blocked at 5. Some convert at distance 5.5 to allow for bolt closed insertion. Dump those mags and insist on 5.5 mags from a good dealer.

Interesting... You may have something there. Although, these are the same mags everyone else uses with no issues. That being said, I'm going to look at these mags a little more closely, this could be the issue, simple as that.

I've got some of the Questar 10 rounders, but they are to short for some of the prone work in service rifle. (I rest on the mag)

But, that being said, I think you are on to something. After the last time on the range I checked each and every mag, and of course, without a round in the mag, they all worked fine.. *scratches head*... Go back to my local range, try some rapid mag changes, problem reappears... I'll check your theory using one of the 10 round mags tonight. I'll also check the theory with the 5/30 round mags by putting only 2 rounds in a 5/30 mag and seeing if I'm able to lock it in.

Thanks for the input.

Interestingly enough, even with a 10 round mag loaded with only 5 rounds, it won't lock in the mag well. Something else is definitely wrong.

Gonna pull her apart today and see what I can see.....

Well, I was just doing some fiddling in the basement... I found that if I "slam" the magazine into the well, it will lock in. If I just push it in, no go.

So, obviously the clearance on the underside of the bolt is such that with the brass just touching the bottom of it, it needs a little more "gentle persuasion" to actually seat in the mag well properly. Interesting. But, at least I could run through mag changes without the damn things NOT seating each and every time. Just going to have to change my style a bit... Not that I had any style to begin with..... ;)

Think I need that lefty Stag AR 15.....
