Good Morning Gents,

I was hoping someone could help answer some questions. I am looking at getting an AR180B-2 and have been looking at some of the aftermarket products availiable. Specificly the Midwest Industries Inc quad rail forearm.

* Is the mounting system using the Picatinny standard?
* Iam assuming it replaces the original forearm, not slip on over top. Is that correct?
* Can you expect faster barrel cooldown due to the design of the forearm? Will the actual forearm get hot after firing consecutive rounds though the rifle

Regarding Magazines

* When talking about Magazine size, when a mag is "pinned" at 5 rounds but its a 10 round magazine can the pin be removed to make it a 10 rounder?
* Is there a restriction on the size of a magazine you can have based on Canadian/Ontario law?

Regarding stocks

* Is there any reason to switch the Stock on the AR180B-2 other than changing the look?
* Does a folding stock comprimise Ontario regulations for non-restricted rifle size (660mm I believe it is)

I appologize if these are silly questions but I am still very new to the rifle world. I have read as much about the AR on this website as I could find but I do appologize if there are any repeats here.

Cheers

I dont have a AR180b and have never looked into the customization of one but i can answer a few of your questions before the AR180b guru's take over.

As for the mags...you cant un-pin a 10 round or 30 round mag that has been pinned to 5 because legally mags made for semi-auto rifles have to be pinned to 5 in this wonderful country of Canada. There is a loophole where you can buy 10 round mags made for pistols....i wont get into that tho.

As far as i know the stock on a AR18b is fine, and solid....changing would be for cosmetics.

the Midwest Industries Inc quad rail forearm does replace the original hand guards which in my opinion are ugly....so if you were me this would be a good customization. Ive heard great things about those rails as well. thats pretty much all ive got.

1. The MI quad rail is Picatinny standard

2. It replaces the standard handguards

3. Barrel cool down could be expected due to the design and I haven't noticed the handguards themselves heating up. Mind you, having to change mags every 5 rounds (I don't have any RRA 10 round pistol mags) does not lend itself to heating up the forearm

4. Against the law to unpin a pinned mag

5. You can have a 100 round mag in a center fire semi auto as long as it is pinned to 5 rounds

6. I have a folding, skeleton stock on mine. It is great for packing in the bush and not having the butt slap you on the backside. Also, when folded it fits quite nicely in the box on the front of my quad. It looks cool too.:D

7. When mine is folded it is 29.25" (743mm) so it meets the requirements for maintaining its non-restricted status.

Hope this helps.

IMHO carry a slung rifle muzzle down, the you can deploy it quicker and you wont fill the muzzle with squirrel food.

Sometimes I do carry muzzle down but in the mountainous country I hike around in, I'd rather scratch up the buttstock than bang the crap out of the muzzle while climbing:pBesides my muzzle usually has a rubber on it. Keeps out the squirrel food and other unseemly items.

Hey Guys

Thanks for the quick and informative answers. I think i'll be ordering an AR tonight.

Armedsak, Thank you for the AR180B FAQ, it was very well written and jam packed with info.

Cheers

The MI forearm was designed specifically for the AR180B. I don't know the length but I'll measure mine if you want:)or you can check it out here:

POF does not make any products specifically for the AR180B.

All POF Predator rail mods, to my knowledge, have either been done by me personally or with my assistance. To my knowledge there are as many as 3 AR180Bs in Canada with the POF rail. One is mine, the first done. Another was done by me for a third party and has since been sold to a person I am in contact with in Alberta. I think there is a third one as well some where that was done with my instruction.

Best set up Ive seen on an AR180B is an MI rail and a Magpul CTR stock ..

(loose the scope IMHO) ..compact, non restricted and legal 10 round RRA mags ;)

There's not really that much info on the AR180b (in terms of accessories), and since my AR is on backorder...i might as well start shopping around for the little bits that make it special.

So.... to start things off.... this is my list (i know... it's pretty typical i'm sure)

Midwest Industries Tactical Forearm
Stormwerkz extended rail
Stormwerkz carbine type 2 stock adaptor
Magpul UBR stock

Where should i look for handguards and slings?

Allan!

Well I guess if you are looking for AR type "rail covers" and slings, I'd check out Marstar. Myself, I use UTG rail covers(same as Leapers) quite functional, comfortable, and can be positioned where you want.

Slings are a whole different matter though. Do you want a 1 point, 2 point 3 point or battle carry?

Have you given thought to battle sights? Not that much can be done with the stock irons but with the proper mount for a holo sight, scope or red dot they can be used as a buis.

I don't know who the Magpul distributor is up here, but they are a ##### to get without paying mucho dinero. Vertical foregrips are a dime a dozen. Depends on whether you want a skinny grip or a fat grip.

I know you must have seen pics of tricked out 180Bs but here is mine and it was inspired by Armedsask. Whether he acknowledges it or not, he has inspired a whole bunch of people.

I won't sell or trade this rifle for an XCR (well maybe a M96 Exp.) Shoots great, accurate and can hang a bunch of sask fatties off it.:p What else could you ask of a non-restricted black rifle:D
