Well I am total newb to this cartridge and style of black gun but on the verge of getting one.(my swiss arms savings plan keeps failing so I'll have to settle)

I read an EE post where the seller was selling due the extra noise of the AR180B. My question is this is a trait of the rifle design?

Before Armedsask dismisses me to the FAQ let me assure that I have read it.

Snake I know you are 100% right! Hopefully the oil patch gods will shine down on my little enterprise this season so I can buy a real gun instead of settling. Any one need a muskeg biologist?

I am not 'worried' about noise really I am just wondering if there is some design peculiarity with the 180B that makes it loader for the shooter?

Yeah..... I like your style my friend

You can't beat the freedom associated with the NR rifles, for that reason I was also interested in the AR180B... Actually, I'm convincing my friend to purchase one

I will keep an eye on this thread, because it is a very interesting question you have posed.

Gool luck with the oil patch

^ meh ...sold my blk spec for an AR-180b. RRA mags are nice.

Back to the question...nope. You need better ear protection. See the peltor group buy and get in on it.

Having owned one..... Yes the 180b is LOUDER than other .223 rifles of it's ilk.
'Likely due to the completely unneccessary integral muzzle brake.

Muzzle brake on a .223...? :jerkit:

Any one know if the brake is required for OAL with a folder? Any other reason not to lop it off?

It's required for the total barrel length... 18.5" is the legal minimum length; it's a semi-auto so OAL isn't the main issue as barrel length now plays the main role in restricted/non-restricted status.

:)

Could it be swapped? what about lopping it off and welding on a bbl extension? I'm having Deja vu.... I'm pretty sure there was an entire thread on this topic bit I can't remember the outcome...

Welding on extensions is not a legal way to extend a barrels length (Beretta CX4 discussion a while back - I confirmed with CFC). You can lop off some of the barrel, but you will leave a bit in order to maintain the 18.5" of steel. I believe ArmedSask's AR180B is as short as you can go legally (he has a FH on his) so take a look :)

In regards to new barrels... I am going to attempt putting on an AR15 barrel in a few months. I'll post how it goes when I do :)

Yeah, that's what I thought. I'm not familiar with Armed's bbl mods, I'll have to look into it. Did he low off some of the muzzle break but still have to leave some to maintain 18.5"?

The AR180B barrel is only rifled to 18.25 inches. If you cut the muzzle brake off back to the rifling, your gun will be too short.

It's a pain in the ass to do, but you must leave 1/4 inch of the muzzle brake material to maintain legal length.
