Anyone have experience with shooting AR500 steel with your .22? I'm looking to pick up an 8" gong 3/8 thick, so that I'll be able to use it for both my .22 and my .30-06. But is it true that the 3/8" is too thick for .22 and you won't get much movement/ring at 100 yards plus ...

I hear hits at 360 with subsonic 22 rounds on a 3/8" plate if its half quiet out. But it isnt gonna swing it. At 100yards i don't have a problem hearing it all all personally, even with subsonic.

You can hear 3/8 fine at 100. I am going to test out some 1/4 AR500 targets I got from Range Rabbit this week. Considering the price it would be just as well to pick up one of each if you want a louder ring from the rimfire.

I use a plate I made at work. 3/16" mild steel. I use a plant hanger as a stand. Swings and dings real nice. No dents at all. You don't need anything fancy for .22. Plant hanger hook thingy is probably $15 at crappy tire, and you can probably have a metal shop cut a piece of scrap steel for you for very cheap. Good to go, for .22 anyway.

TargetGuy's plant hanger is a good idea. I've used them too.
...and go to Dollarama....they have 36" tall plant hangers for $3.:)

Yeah I use the garden hooks. Originally went with the ones from CT, but dollar store got them cheap... I use a snap link on my gong, so now its off set. Basically mount them side ways and the hook off to the side, less chances of me actually hitting the shaft of the hook.
