I know Canada received a shipment of Arab sks carbines brought via Century back around the same time the US branch reveived/sold them. They can be russian or chinese, usually pretty well worn, can possibly have a blued bolt, lamy stock, and/or Arabic numbers painted on the stock.

Who has one?? Canada members only please.

I have a real old one that I still don't know what it is. But It sure is worn and seems like it was used in combat. Still shoots great to.

There you go... Any idea on when it was purchased originally from a retailer and/or if it were Century that imported it? I understand Canadian imports are not import marked.

I bought one from Century. These were among the first SKS rifles to be imported into Canada; the rifles were quite uncommon here at the time. Had a number in Arabic script painted on the butt. It was a '51.

Still have any pictures of the rifle? Do you remember what the story/rumor was regarding the origins of the rifles in question?

These wouldn't be contract guns would they? I'm guessing they were sold (given away) surplus as with most other countries that received the SKS

True... Please excuse my wording. I know most people commonly refer to them this way. Although, many of them were sent to the middle east having specific characteristics such as the laminated stock and blued carrier suggesting a nation may have 'ordered' them in a certain configuration. We will likely never know about those, but the other rifles having the same background in normal configuration would indicate typical chicom aid from stock. And of course the russians as posted above were in standard configuration lending no identifier or clues as far as being a 'contract' as apposed to typical aid from surplus.

The israeli surplus sks rifles were used as truck rifles and had the bayonets taken off while in use. I saw hundreds of them in storage back in the day. They were Russian,

Particularly Chinese..... Russians are well known to have been used in the Suez crisis etc. The chinese have never been bought, given, or aided to Egypt. Is it a safe bet the rifles in question were well known in Canada to have come from Israel at the time?
