Just a newbie here trying to figure out if I purchase a Archangel AA556R kit will my 10/22 fall into the restricted class? Do not want to end up on the wrong side of the fence.

typically they do not reclassify stuff.
typically.

but as have seen this year it can always happen.

but i dont see anything on that stock that is any different from the stock ruger SR10/22 stock or all the other after market 10/22 AR type stocks.
its not like its a dedicated 100% AR stock like the smith and wesson AR in 22cal that is designed, manufactured and sold as a AR.
this is simply a shell that you put over your existing 10/22 to make it look like a AR.
so if they where to reclassify it they would in essence be reclassifying the ruger 10/22, which i cant see happening.

now if you put it in a Bull Pup shell..... that is restricted.

Just make sure you meet the minimum 26" overall length when stock is collapsed. To measure without the actual installation, measure the length of the receiver from the base of the barrel, length of barrel, and measure the collapsed stock from the base of receiver. These should add up to 26". I got a R597 HB, 18" barrel, + receiver when installed on a similar A556 kit, clears the 26" even when stock is collapsed. I am sure a lot of shooters has done this conversion. As long as you are not cutting the barrel or replacing it with shorter aftermarket barrel (shorter than 18") I do not see any problem.

Just to add to this, if you have a factory barrel, youll be ok. If you have a short aftermarket heavy barrel, you'll want to pull out some measuring tape.

Out of curiousity, I'd like to extend this topic a bit further.. I thought I had read somewhere a user placing 10-22s in Airsoft stocks such as an MG42. Would this not make it a prohibited device as a functioning replica?

No thats wrong. If the gun is a 10/22, its a 10/22. Its not considered a functioning replica if its a drop is stock.

the key point;
the gun is still a 10/22 you are just putting a costume on it.
so even thought it LOOKS like a AR or a MG42 under the plastic its still the same old 10/22.

then we can ask the confusing question, so if a 10/22 is a 10/22 as long as we are just switching out the stock (leaving the action/receiver/trigger/barrel all together) then why is something like a bullpup drop in stock prohibited?

but thats a question for another day (thread).

So no P90/22?

I saw HTA stocks and they are drool worthy.

i find it amusing that you can now buy PS90's in canada with 18" barrels and they are NON RESTRICTED, just normal rifles.
but if you put your 10/22 into a P90 drop in stock its prohibited.

its all because people get caught up on that keyword 'bullpup'

A tavor is made that way. Take the stock off and it doesn't function. That's the only way we can have a bull pup. Kinda dumb really, but it is what it is.
