Hi Shotgun Gurus:
I have a nice Remington 870 Police Marine Magnum, synthetic stock, and I use it for IDPA matches and the recoil is stout. This negatively affects my time to get back on target. I don't really mind the kick, just want to get back on target quicker (yes I need more practice). It comes with a Remington Supercell recoil pad which is supposedly a premium recoil pad. I have thought about replacing it with an aftermarket (Limbsaver, Pachmayer or Kick Eeze...).

Should i bother or stick with the Supercell?

I also use the gun, with a Cerakoated 30 inch barrel, for some upland birds, seabirds, waterfowl (Tho I have a semi for ducks).
Its a fantastic pump gun and the nickel finish is great for Newfoundland but I like to tweak things. Sometimes I tweak things I should just leave alone LOL.

Cheers

Does the International Defensive Pistol Association require heavy loads to be used in your shotgun... if not use the lightest target loads... I always preferred the Pachmayer Decelerator pad... it is soft and last years compared to some of the sticky soft ones...

When I am worried about recoil .... like a range session with full power 12ga slugs .... then I add a Limbsaver slip on recoil pad to the shotgun.

They come in 2 or 3 sizes I believe .... and really help to absorb that recoil ....

Iff'ih yer arms will allow, why not put awn a slip on recoil pad?
Dubble up?

this will help a lot if acceptable for your lenght of pull.

The Pachmayer Decelerator and LimbSaver pads work very well. Some are prefit for various makes and models, while you can also get a gunsmith to install a grind to fit model.
If you're worried about clothing hanging up the stock as you mount the gun, the Pachmayer is available with a hard top that cloth will glide over and mitigate this issue.
I have both installed on various firearms...with LimbSavers being used on the hardest recoiling ones.
