I was thinking of putting a red dot on my .22 (CZ457) and the only RDS that come with a 11mm dovetail base are designed for airguns. Will these be any good for a .22, or should I just not bother? Are there any brands that are worth looking at?

What do you want to 'hit'? A red dot doesn't give much accuracy for a 22, especially what a 457 can do. A 2MOA dot will cover 1" at 50 yds. You do get faster target acquisition than a scope, once you get used to it.

I was mostly looking to take it snowshoe hare hunting after grouse and partridge season is over. I also would be using it for backyard shenanigans at 30-100yds in the off-season.

They'll be just as reliable on a 22 as they are on an air gun.

Which is not very. Air gun specific optics are tyyypically garbage. But they won't be any more garbage on a 22. So go nuts with your lowered expectations.

As stated air gun rated scopes are designed for recoil in both directions. Also stated it will cover more of the target then you want, if you want to be accurate.

I would skip the red dot and look at LPVOs in 1-4, 1-6 or 1-8

On my CZ 457 I run a 5-25 strike eagle... but I mainly shoot positional with a bag or bipod and bag rested off a bench

My girlfriends 12yr old daughter has issues using a normal scope on her CZ 22. So we tried a red dot for her and now wascally wee wabbits are no problem out to about 50-60 metres. Seeing as it worked so well for her, I tried it off the bench at 100 metres, 2 mags full, 10 shots. I was able to shoot a 40mm 10 shot group at 100 no problems at all. The dot covered the target, but only just. They are a great wee optic for spook and shoot with a 22.........or bigger for bigger game.
