Are BSA scopes really that bad?

Thinking of putting one on a Swift, their prices are good for high magnification. Would I be wasting money?
Internet reviews aren't all that bad..
 
Between me and my dad we probably have 10 BSA scopes. I have a sweet 17 on my savage 17HMR and a couple on my other rimfire rifles. They are a decent scope, some of them you need to find the sweet spot in the eye relief though. Sometimes you'll get a lemon but they are really good about warranty issues. My dad runs the big tactical ones on a couple .308s and never had any problems with them.

I splurged a little on the scope I put on my 700 sps tactical .223 - I highly recommend the Mueller target 8-32x44 if you can get one, I bought mine in the states from optics planet. Huge eye relief, crystal clear, locking turrents, side parallax. My friend has a bushnell elite 6500 on his .338 lapua and I think it is complete garbage compared to the Mueller!
 
The bad thing about BSA scopes is that you can't get service for them.
I have a 4-16x44 cateye and it has a black floater inside it. I contacted BSA and told them about it and they said it is covered under warranty but as soon as I told them I was in Canada he pretty much just laughed and said I was on my own. They have no service centers in Canada and they will not ship it to Canada after it has been serviced.
So if you buy one you better hope it is perfect and never has problems.
 
I think I had a small lapse of judgement when I seen the price, so looks like it will be a Vortex or Redfield for me then.
 
Opinions on BSA (even from retailers selling them) seems to be that they are crap.

Since Mueller came up, I have an APT that I think is a great scope for the money; I'd buy another.
