Are Chinese sks's blued or painted?

Blued

Some of the bolts look like an enamel grey finish, but they should have blued metal on the receiver/barrel/trigger/magazine.

Here is a pic of the Gray Chinese Bolt from Bulls Eye in london on ,, web site http://www.bullseyelondon.com/chinese-sks-surplus-semi-auto-rifle-7-62x39mm-5-rounds-wood-stock.html

I think you bought one of the recent Type 56 (Chinese designation for the SKS) imports.

Vast majority that I have handled have been well used and re-furbished by the Chinese prior to storage or perhaps to 'pimp' for export.

Yours looks like a typical example. Stock sanded and re-finished with some type of crazy shellac - Circa Antique paint gel won't even remove it. Many have MM parts and the metal is often re-finished "rough blueing" and those "grey" bolts.

Heck they are still selling for $240-350 in that condition, so hold onto it and enjoy!!!

Marstar in the Fall had some un-issued rifles and ~2x years ago there used to be tons on the market. They were minty - but many actually had replacement stocks. Those rifles were nicer and more original, but these rifles are kind of neat as they have been there and done that - at least on guard duty.

Sorry, can't upload the photos here, but here are what unissued, unfired military versions look like. Bought a few crates of these years ago to get the ammo cheaper. Who knew that they were going to be so desirable today!

They are all numbers matching...blued...machined receivers...chrome lined barrels...spike bayo.

It's listed on this website: http://chinesesks.weebly.com/arsenal-stamps.html (?5) "Please note, there are several triangle stamps at the end of the list shown with a (?) after an allocated number. These are arsenal stamps comprised of numbers in the middle, and with numbers in all three corners etc. There is NO defined indication as the the proper order of these numbers within the triangle, so we will NOT be classifying them based on an assumption. We have decided to simply list them as an (unknown), and will be illustrated with a (?) following a number assigned starting at ?1 then ?2 etc."

Factory/arsenal stamp looks like 0306, zero on top, three on left, zero center and six on right and the 9 may have been added to
avoid duplication of serial numbers.

Yep, I can see where you get the 306.

Here is a 306 that I have...different stamp but doesn't mean anything...could have changed it over the years. Interesting that it the one above is on the right of the serial.

This web site shows my factory triangle stamp , refers to it as 406 or 406b

The stamp itself, is of the "triangles" pattern and what I will call a 406b arsenal stamp. This is how it is listed in the survey database, and it's a "b" because there is a numerical 406 arsenal also. Going off how most "decode" the other popular triangle stamps, 406 seem pretty valid (could also be 0406 if you count the extra triangle as a zero).
