Are HK owners SOL for parts?

Hey all,

I'm considering an HK USP Compact... however, from experience, I like to know I can order parts "easily-quickly" in the future in the event I need something.

Glocks and 1911's are awesome in this regard.


But who do the Canadians with HK's contact when they need parts?

That would be RNichols/FN Sports. Sadly their service is, well....so bad that many people think they're anti-gun. Sorry, but I'd check with some of the better wholesalers to find out if they have a better source (actually any other source is a better source) - guys like TSE, Wolverine and Questar may be a better bet.
 
I ordered my P7M8's and my P2000's from Wolverines. It takes about 1 year for parts to come in but Wolverine's gets them in. Some stuff you may want to get to make a parts kit.

Extra recoil springs or complete recoil assemblies for guns like P2000 where it's hard to get retaining plate off the rod, yes it's expensive but they typically good for 15-20K before replacement.

trigger springs, trigger return springs, extractor, ejector, some of the roll pins for the frame. Main springs for hammer. (springs are cheap)
 
I can't think of how many parts I bought,..and never used. I just sold a bunch of parts that were nib. THe only part that ever broke was my firing pin (after 8000+ rds,..no cleaning and countless dryfires)

that being said,...getting parts was never a PITA for me. Maybe your supplier or dealer was the problem. At least half the parts I ordered came via R. Nichols.
 
I got all my HK parts from Al Simmons in Hamilton Ont. who orders through Nichols. Never had a problem. If Nichols has it in stock you get it in 2 days, if they don't have it in stock you get 2 days after they get it.

Like maurice, I ordered an assortment of parts for spares, and in 5 yrs the only thing I've replaced was the little trigger spring.
 
ordered some parts from Wolverine.. i assume they originated from R Nichols... wasn't too bad.. and there must be bits and pieces on Brownells?

So far all I've ordered for my P2000 are recoil spring assemblies.

P7M8's have 2 pieces which traditionally fail, sear bar and firing pin bushing, I also ordered spare pins, springs, drop safeties/spring, extractor/spring, even an extra piston just in case. I also had some of these parts chromed to match my pair of chromed P7M8's.

When I checked on the US HK forums, P7M8's are the only guns people build parts kits for.

I believe the newer HK pistols have less breakage than the P7M8 due to more simple design.

Followers get chipped and scratched,..although I used sandpaper to smooth up the follower before replacing. Extractor and extractor springs,..firing pin and springs,..match trigger kit, hammer,..sear springs,..detent plates (to change variant),..different safety levers for left and right hand use,...sights....etc..etc..

what I learned is that the detent plate was the cheapest way to go unless you change the lever from left side to right side. (the lever did not need to be changed.). The extractor is REALLY tuff!,...the cleaning and perhaps a spring changed if you notice it not extracting well. I would not replace the recoil spring unless I had to ,...(ie: it was broken) The dual system works smoother when the round count is over 3000. (or cycled enough). The hammer spring for the match trigger kit is NOT the same as the regular hammer spring. (it is a softer metal)....the blued sear spring is not as smooth as the stainless piece,...the newer models have a better firing pin,...Lubricate the hammer and hammer strut/ spring (metal on metal not good for trigger press),....the firing pin block should be polished, and you can order a lighter firing pin block spring (I think, as the LEM kit has different weights), this lowers the single action trigger weight,..reduces stacking before the break.
Out of the box you will not find a more reliable firearm as the USP 9mm.:rockOn:
You can get some fast splits out of the USP,..but usually at distance the heavier guns make it easier for follow up shots and recoil control. SA reset is usually very nice out of the CUstom sport or match trigger.
