I have a buddy who has offered to sell me is NIB Norinco CQ circa 2006. It has never been fired and has a chrome lined barrel?

Was that a good or bad vintage, or are they hit and miss for all years?

The Norc 1911's seem to have improved over the past couple of years.

Is it the same story for the AR's?

IMHO, the quality of the Norinco AR's has improved significantly since 2006. The fit and finish is better, the powder coating is better and machine specs are closer. There are still a few issues with extractor springs, but that's a cheap, quick fix. Simply install the correct "milspec" extractor spring and you're GTG.
I had a 2006/7 CQ and it ran like a train. No problems whatsoever. Very accurate, too.

I think those were just painted not Parkerized & Anodized like the new ones and It was easy to chip the paint :-/

Buy yourself a new one...
