Are prices being matched

I'm still waiting for one of these folks that swears he can sell at par to open a shop with his own money...
If the BFL doesn't cause him to choke the insurance costs will and then all the other overhead... Then all the accounting costs if not for someone to do then your time to fill out the paperwork....

Also a point to remember, in the US selling firearms is a business like any other, yes, you have to have an FFL, but really the requirements aren't that tough. People see guns as a product, they may not like them but they're like alcohol or cigarettes; they're there. In Canada the regulatory bodies treat gunshop owners like they're borderline criminals, and a large part of the population treats guns like nuclear devices. This is one reason there aren't gunshops on every corner. By the time you've finished dealing with the regulators, the guy who delivers your product(not a lot of shooters at Canada Post or even Canpar), the wierdos walking through the door (who have no intention of buying - aren't even qualified) some of the suppliers(yes we have that part..six months later, why do you want it/you can't have it), and the fact that the only way you can stay in business is to draft family members to do the paperwork, there's not a lot of 'fun' in the business, oh yeah - and you're trying to make a living. Canadians are lucky there's anyone in the business.
Almost forgot my favorite; everytime some gangbanger gets shot there's an idiot reporter at the door asking if you sold the murder weapon, and did you know it would be used to kill poor little Johnny. Oh and can we use your name, address and Social Insurance Number.

Kind of explains why there's not much competition, doesn't it.

End Rant

Why do people go to such an extent to justify the prices we pay and to defend the retailers. ????

Pre-ordering...carrying stock...shipping...insurance...taxes. All the US dealers have to pay that too!

Lets see you put that effort into explain why we shouild see lower prices ina few months.

Why do you continually understate our costs?

Check out delivery costs in the US, then look at an international shipping charge. The US costs of shipping amount to about 1/10th what we pay.

More importantly, most US manufacturers will deal direct to US dealers, however they insist on going through a foreign distributor. So now we add another level of costs to the retail price in Canada.

Dealers mark up guns about 20% over cost. Compare our margins to most other industries and you will see that our margins are fairly low. We don't need defending because we are not gouging.

Someone brought up gas in this discussion and it is a good comparison in some respects. Yes the oil comes from Canada, but the gas is cheaper in the US. Are the gas stations ripping you off? The retail price on gas is largely determined by taxation levels, and the gas stations take on the sale is very small. So the guy selling direct is taking the blame for conditions for which he has little control over.
