Are SKS' The Best Deal Or What??

I bought a great Russian SKS with tapco stock and mag for $350. Patience, there are lots out there. Add a stock, it changes the look and looks great IMO.

the cz/vz is nice but a sks can be had for as low as 168 bucks! i don't particularly like the look of the sks to be honest, but and a big but its dirty dirty cheap to own.

i bought a nork m213 from canamm awhile back for no other reason then it was only 99 bucks. im thinking the same might apply to the sks...

how much does the sks go for in the u.s.? who has the best deal going on a sks right now, seems to be so many out there.

i really do like the assault rifle look(cz) whats the quickest easiest way to transform a sks as well?

i personally like the stock look but you could trick it out with a 30 round mag (pinned to five ofcourse) i can get the mags for around $100.00 if your intrested. you might be able to get them a little cheaper... i have access to three.

If you plan to tapco-pimp-f**k your SKS you'll end up spending pretty much the same amount of money that you would of have spent on a VZ58. But the end result will be a "tactical" rifle that was never meant to be. If you want pistol grip/folding stock/detachable mags go with the VZ.

The SKS is without question the best value in a rifle, pound for pound, dollar spent for dollar spent, in my modest opinion. However I agree with previous posters that if you really want a tactical rifle a vz58 will deliver a better experience no matter how much you spend pimping your SKS.

That's not to say an SKS isn't worth upgrading. A new trigger group or a synthetic stock are totally worthwhile upgrades.

Of course there is no need to limit yourself, you could always buy both, I did and I'm glad I did. :D

You cannot beat getting a CZ858/vz58 if you are just planning on pimping an SKS anyway. The CZ extra go fast stuff is not too bad for price (ie: Fab Defense, etc.) and in my opinion, you will end up with an excellent rifle that will rival any black rifle out there for quality - and will cost a heck of a lot less to shoot too.

Most definitely a good bang for your buck. If you are not going to pimp your gun, then the SKS is the way to go. If you are planning to fix 'er up, then there may be better routes to go.

how much does the sks go for in the u.s.?

well, thats depends on where the SKS originated from.

cant import chinese and russian SKS into the US , no problem with yugo so yugo are cheaper there but the chinese and russian are much higher , especially the russian.

new chinese is C$190 here , min US$250 in the US.

excellent cond russian is C$200-$269 here , you're looking at min US$350 in the states.

I think SKS looks best the way it was made. I'd rather have an original than a half assed looking black gun wannabe.

I have a Russian one, still wanted a back gun so got Norinco AR for that :)
