Are the ground squirrels gone to bed

Are there still any ground squirrels out and about around Pincher Creek.

Cold weather is moving in.

When do the critters tend to go underground?

If the grass conditions were ok, how late in the year is it worth venturing into the fields, August, September???

I think they go to bed about half past September and get up about quarter to May.

I have shot these elusive critters as late as first snowfall. I am still shooting lots each outing, And in the Spring, they have been spotted running on top of the snow. Mainly the mating season brings them out in late March - early April.
