Are the hi-point 9mm carbines worth trying?

I've had mixed experience with Hi-Points customer service. In one case they were great and sent me a spring I lost no problem, in the second instance I requested a part that got bent from my own doing and they told me they couldn't ship any parts to Canada. I mentioned how great their service was the previous time I needed it and the operator on the phone just said, "I'm sorry I can't help you, contact your dealer" Which I did and never got anywhere. No surprise. I suppose if I wanted to really follow up and hound them they might help me but it's a shame the company couldn't just send me the part like Henry, RCBS, Dillon, and other companies. These small parts aren't ITAR controlled.

I like my Hi Point at 399, It's not a bad deal. It always works, it's accurate. Mind you the trigger could shed some weight. It replaced my 1911 in a Hera Arms CPE chassi for my test gun.

The 5rd 9mm mag is kinda a bummer, but what happens when you bring the cart before the horse. If they made a 9mm pistol available for Canada first, then it wouldn't been a problem. I find I short stroke the bolt, since it's quite stiff compared to everything else I own. That the bolt catch will let go, but I don't pull back far enough back to strip a round from the mag.

And had to locktite the bolt handle and muzzle protector on. Since never stayed tight. And removed the springs on the pogo stick function.

These are ugly as sin and have an AK like rep for reliability, It physically looks like an end of the world gun and I might pick one up one day, but five rounds for pistol calibre makes me too sad. No 40's and 45's non-restricted?

The winner in that category goes to Jard 68 for completely ugly.
Think 2x4 with less splinters.

This is why i prefer the 45 over the 9mm. You can use the 45Hipoint pistol mags with 9 shots. We can't get the 9mm pistol mags in Canada.
Haven't tried converting mags for it.

Even if we could get the 9mm pistol mags they don't fit in the carbine, carbine has a longer grip, the 9mm pistol is smaller than the ones in 40 and 45.

Hi Point can only have 5 round mags, no? That's a deal-breaker for me,

Depends on the caliber. The 40sw and 45acp carbines use the same mags as the 40/45 handguns respectively. For some reason a lot of the carbines in these calibers are being sold with 5rd mags, but they can legally use full capacity mags.

The 9mm is a different beast, it uses a different magazine from the handgun, thus its a rifle mag limited to 5. The handgun was never available in Canada due to barrel length, but even if it was the mags are not the same.

I realize this post is old, but 45acp NR versions are now available.
