Are the newer wooden Chiappa M1 9mm any good?

I've had mine for about 2 years. I replaced the bayonet lug piece on the front with a USGI metal one. The safety is still plastic, but I haven't run into any issues. I've probably put 300 rounds or so through mine (max I'd say). They have been a variety of reloads, Blazer brass and aluminum, and UMC ammo. I think I've only had one or two stovepipe in that whole time. I have the two original mags it came with, plus 2 other Beretta 92 style mags, each from a different manufacturer, and haven't had any issues with any of them

I'm still waiting for someone out there to 3D print panels to go on the Beretta 92 mags to make them look like original M1 Carbine mags

Here's a picture from shortly after I got it of my M1-9 with the USGI Bayonet lug and a repro sling and buttstock pouch

I feel they are hit and miss. I owned one. Love the look. Bought 5 additional magazines for it as I was going to use it for PCC matches. Whether handloads or commercial ammo (Winchester Whitebox, PMC Bronze, Blazer brass, Blazer Aluminum), I could not shoot a full magazine without a FTE, FTF, or other issue. Read so many online reports - some people had no issues (or so they claimed). Some said only use 147gr projectiles (tried that - didn't work for me). Since I handload I tried 115gr projectiles with min load all the way to max load. FTE or FTF every single magazine.

One of the most frustrating rifles I have owned.

My thought is it's the magazine angle. The rounds point "up" too much - the magazine well should have been tilted more towards the barrel so the next round would be more aimed at the chamber.

I still love the looks of these firearms (I'm a big M1 Carbine fan). But ended going with a Ruger PCC with pretty much no issues with commercial or my handloaded ammo.

YMMV

I own one too. It's been 99.5% reliable. Very occasional stovepipe. 115 and 124s, it didn't care. I have 2 original mags and 4 or 6 more Beretta mags. The aftermarket mags don't hold the bolt open. I wanted to pick up a 92 pistol but Turdo got in the way :-< . I bought it initially for my kids to shoot steel on the action range. I have no plans to sell it.

I just bought a new one. I've fired 250 reloads (3.0gr of 700X and Berry's 147gr plated RN) with no FTF or jams. Smooth little gun and a real pleasure to shoot.
