Seems all you see at range are new Savages Laminated stainless in 204 &.223 rem. and they claim to be shooting one hole groups
Having a little shoot tommorrow at Stittsville range best groups at 1,2 &300 yards and a hunter class target at 100.yards.
I feel I might get smoked with my old 222 Rem in a 700 HV going to bring my .223 Rem also.
Anyone with a good shooting Rem come on out, seems like I will be only one shooting a Remington.

Please post the results. It would be nice to see a few pics as well. Sounds like it will be an interesting day.

LOL!!!! I for one would never count out that ollll .222 rem...............

Honesty please from your results, on the one hole groups.

To be 100% honest I get my best Moa when i shoot one shot!

Bench rest Comp avg .2s for 5 shot groups some shoot better for strings.

I have yet to see whittness or shot any tactical production rifle that would run with a BR rifle out to 300 yards.

Below I Xed out the results from the national match these are the top shooters at 100 yards in the world 50% shot into the .4s

Just keep laughing at the one hole wonders, i shoot at 3 ranges quite a bit, and i dont see them out!

My Savage won't shoot perfect 1 hole groups at 100 meters (110 yds) but it comes close with handloads, usually under a half inch for 5 shots. The targets posted here are done on sandbags and not the bipod. The 300 meter target as you can tell was adjusted over 10 shots accounting for a crosswind. I agree with Jason about comparing with a benchrest rifle at 300 yds / meters. I have a custom 6.5 x 55 that produces a fairly consistant group at 300 meters if I do my part (see other pic). Sorry I don't have a 100 m target to post, I haven't shot that close in a while.

Juan, I noticed you use H322 powder for your 223. I use Varget. If you have tried Varget how does it compare to H322? Reason for asking is the higher price of Varget.

Jason I can't stop giggling after that one liner you made I think thats what I will do tommorrow one shot and take the Remingtons home.
I have a box of Federal Gold match 69gr that I will give three shots to see how they group in 1/7 twist and 1/9 twist Savage and I know they don't shoot good in my Rem 700 XCR 1/9 twist but I will try as well and post some pic's

What class are you shooting, those are good groups for a BR rifle.
I avg in the 3s-4s most days for avg groups.
I have shot a .1 group ONCE not worth keeping the target because the gun is a ,3 to 4 in reality. I shoot 5 , 5 shot strings and avg them.

The New Savage rifles are shooting pretty decent, but not any better than most of their competition (Remington 700's) I had to laugh at a Savage owner at the range a couple of days ago. He was shooting 3-shot groups well under moa with his 223, and was quite vocal about how accurate this Rifle was. He measured up several groups, and the best was around .32" C-to-C. He as much as told me I was full of it when I told him that both my 788 in 222 and my M77V Swift would shoot better than that. He had little to say after looking through the spotting scope at three consecutive 220 Swift 3-shot groups that were under ÂĽmoa, plus a 5-shot group at .29" Jason Yuke makes a good point, it's many groups averaged that truly show what a rifle is capable of. A couple of good groups are hiding in almost any rifle. It's consistency that makes an accurate rifle. Regards, Eagleye.

Hi Eagleye sure wish you could be at range tommorrow with your Remingtons
as I think I will nead all the help I could get, to keep close to those Savages.

I had order a base for my old 700 222 HV the only thing done to it is Rem trigger at 2lbs and bedded, to stick on my Benchrest 8by32 scope on it as I need all the help I can get only have a Old Elpaso Weaver T6
on the duece, The guy with the .204 says he shoots under 1/2 all day long
Eagleye how is your New Old like new 52 working for you. good as the 541 Remington ?

I'm just a casual plinker. Those groups were shot back to back with a stevens 200 rebarreld with a pacnor 6 BR.

Nice groups Juan! I suspect we have had some of the same experiences. My rifle is a Stevens 200, like yours, with what is probably a McLennan barrel on it that Dennis Sorenson installed for me. When I first shot it I couldn't believe the groups that I could shoot with such an inexpensive action. As testing progresses it seems to be holding up too. For years I liked Remingtons and even owned several, both hunting rifles and varminters. They shot well, though not as well as this one, and I liked their triggers too. A number of years ago you could go to a silhouette match and see a solid line of Remingtons in the racks. I don't know what it's like now, but after my experience with this action I am thinking there is an alternative, especially when I see other guys like you reporting what you have found. In our hearts I'm sure we would all like to have a custom built action with the finest match grade barrel we could find and a Jewel trigger. (I want to own at least one Jewel trigger before I die.) No doubt it would outshoot our Savages (Stevens) and even maul the odd Remington too. Still, for the dollars spent what a ride!

Manitou; I wish I could just wish myself over there and join you!! It would be a blast, I'm sure. Just starting to get practiced up for our 1000 yard match in early May....weather has been very un-cooperative, cold and windy. Supposed to get some warmer weather in the next few days. As for the new-to-me, but old M52C Winchester, I finally got the very fine (no mutilating of the M52 Receiver) base from Ken Viani in Morton Grove, Illinois. It is a thing of beauty, and my 6-24 sits in the weaver rings just great. I have only managed to try a half dozen types of "good" ammo so far, but it is truly an accurate rifle. Groups at 50 meters ranged from .14" to .29" (all were average of 3 groups of 5-shots each), which means the 541 will be working to stay abreast of it. That is not to say the 541 does not shoot groups in those areas, but possibly not as consistent with a variety of ammo. The best in the 52C was Lapua Midas M, with Eley EPS match chasing hard. Worst was RWS Target Rifle, but at .29" avg for 3 groups, that is still noteworthy. One advantage the 52 has over the 541 is a stock that is better suited to the sandbags I had. However, I have just invested in new rests/bags that are capable of steadying the narrower fore-ends better, so time will tell. Take care, let me know how you make out with that triple deuce. Regards, Eagleye.
