My wife is a very active IPSC shooter.
She progressed in this form, over the last year.....
M&P9 PRO -> CZ Shadow -> Tanfoglio LC40 -> STI USPSA 9mm
The single stack fits her in terms of weight and there are so many grip and trigger applications (uses a short SV trigger with VZ slim grips) that finding a good match was relatively easy.
9mm light loads through a properly tuned 1911 are hard to beat, both in terms of manageability and accuracy. Polymer triggers were not her thing (and limp wristing was an issue). She couldn't quite get over the double action first pull of the CZ, and while she loved the Tanfo, it did not compare with the single action pull of a 1911....especially when tuned to 2.5lbs.
