My brother found these 2 helmets in the house he just bought. I don't really know much about helmets but I figured some of you would know if they a genuine or reproduction helmets. Let me know what you think.

The first one could be a german M1935 or M1940 helmet according the info I found on internet. There was a decal on both side which have been painted over. There is a 4 digit code stamped inside (4723)

The second one looks like a swiss M71 according to what I found on internet. Paint is very textured, not sure if this is original.

Thank you

First one is a genuine German WW2 Helmet that was taken from captured stocks in Norway, and redecaled/overpainted by the Norwegians and re issued. There should be a Norwegian Royal Lion Cypher decal under the paint.

The second is a Post War Swiss Helmet.

desertfox nailed it.

Reissued by norway.

And it looks to me an M35 based on the air vent.

there should also be a maker code and size. ckl66, et62, Q68 etc.

Thank you guys!

Any idea what the M35 is worth? Do you think the Royal Lion was painted over by the Norwegians after the war??

When the German helmets were being re issued as standard kit for the Norwegian Armed Forces, they many times repainted the helmets, replaced worn out liners with their own, and applied the Norwegian Royal Lion Decals on the Helmets.

When those crazy Vikings sold off the Helmets, they splashed that ugly puke green paint over the decal to "De-Mil" it or to sanitize it. To show that it was no longer Norwegian Government issued property. Same as when countries sometimes grind or cross out markings on rifles that are being sold as surplus.

The lid is worth whatever someone is willing to pay. They are not that common, so price points are hard to project.... But also, not as desirable as an original German helmet that has not been touched.

I got mine to go with my Norwegian re issued German matching (except for the 30-06 barrel of course) K98. My wifes side of the family is Norwegian. Gotta represent the Vikings! ;)
