Thinking of buying a K98 mauser.I know little about german mausers in WWII.
Are these real german stamps on the butt stock?Or fake?

Stock looks to be in really good shape for an early type stock. I have the same stock, stamps seem to match except mine is "L" marked and my take down disk has the "eagle over 655" on but yours doesn't.

I concur... Seems a little fishy to me. You can buy stamps (in fact done guy has one on the EE now...) and the German militaria market has been diluted by fakes...

Some experts on CGN will certainly have better info...

Fake. While the pic you posted doesn't show the details very well, the stock is way to heavily sanded for the stamps to be that crisp and the shape and size of things like the eagles doesn't look right. Below is a pic of legit WaA655 stamps on a byf 41 you can use for comparison.

What is the WaA on the disk in your stock ? the stock appears refinished and restruck. note how clean the disk is and how the sling cutout looks full of gunk.

Looks like a normal sized take down disc. Sauer used a smaller dia one but most makers used the same size or very close any way. Late war are stamped metal instead of milled like this one.
