Are Type 63 rifles legal?

Given that they are selective fire, IF any are legally in the country they would either be 12-2 or 12-3 prohibited firearms.

Existing rifles cannot be remanufactured to semi auto without being prohibited converted automatics. That was the problem with most of the Czech VZ-58 pattern rifles.
I suppose that the Chinese could manufacture a new redesigned semi auto version, if they still had the tooling and inclination to do so.

No. Converted automatics are prohibited as well as automatics.

This makes me sad, thanks for outlining it to me though.

I just thought the Type 63 would be an interesting piece and that with probably 4-6 million of them sat in armouries that they might be something coming to the market one day.

thats how i felt prior to seeing it in a museum in vietnam. i can see why it wasnt popular at home nor abroad. it looked bulky and awkward to handle.

i doubt modern china would store that many obsolete guns. china actually gave most away, even then the NVA preferred the AK and the VC preferred the SKS.
