I've got a Varmint Model RRA I put together a couple of years ago and don't use.
Do people still have an interest in these types or is everyone going for the shorty type stand up shooting ?

I used mine at longer ranges when I did shoot it.

If they could be used for what they were intended for, I think there would be a lot more interest. Seems everyone is going for the tactical look now with those guns.

I loved my 24" barrelled AR but I couldnt use it for what it was meant to be used for so I sold it. Would have been a great coyote and gopher gun though...

Actually it works quite well for Precision (sniper) matches at 3-800 yds.
Snaps at 300 , movers at 400, deliberate targets at 6 and 800
1-8 tw. and really likes 77 gr. Federal Match ammo.

Varmint models would be more popular if you could actually use them where varmints exists.

If AR's were made non-restricted, they would likely be THE most (if not, close to) the most popular models. I'd buy one. :)

I just bought a used Varmint type AR with 24" heavy barrel, floated handguard. It was what I wanted for bench and prone shooting. There's not many competitions around here aside from some times precision shoots and no one is encouraging anyone to run around with an AR at the range I shoot at, so stationary it is. And if its stationary, it has might as well be heavy.

Heres a thought, Would be great if we could get the CFC/CFOs/Feds to agree to change / amend the laws to allow us to us the varmint AR on a special TAN for Varmint/Hunting permint even if there was a fee for said permint. The Feds could make a few bucks & we would be allowed to use it again for hunting like the days before C68

why would you accept to paying a fee?? you bought the rifle, pay your taxes, abide by their laws. any more to them is not just an insult but a travesty . they should be allowed anywhere that a rifle can go !!

I agree that (gee the thread changed,,, um) it would be nice to have the choice.
I personally have no interest in hunting but I have alot of good friends that do enjoy it and see no problems with the sport.
Other than that magazine owning guy that flies all over the world to shoot things that didn't need shooting that he has no intention of eating...... damn here I go again, sorry thats a rant for another time.....
I hunted alot in younger days and found I was had a gift for it but wasn't so gifted when it came to cleaning and eating (making use of) what i'd killed. After watching too many things go rotten un used I quit and started target shooting which give me pretty well the same amount of pleasure and satisfaction with out the guilt.
