I have been shopping for new hunting binoculars for several months now and have tried several from the usual players, typically under limited lighting settings, usually the optics counter at Cabelas. I always seem to gravitate back to the Swarovski ELs. They seemed to be the bar for me but not too surprisingly I have had a hard time choking down the price. I was in Bass Pro on Saturday after the Calgary Gun Show and once again looked at the ELs and for a lark asked to see the Chinese made Zeiss Terra ED 10x42. I was actually very impressed irregardless of the $500 price point. Subjectively they seemed visually almost 90% of the Swaros. Am I missing something or are these really decent/worthy optics under real life conditions ?

I own the Zeiss Terra ed’s In 10x42. I own several other makes and I keep the Zeiss as my truck bino’s because the are pretty decent working bino’s but if somebody broke into my truck and stole them it would upset me but wouldn’t break my heart. I find them very difficult to focus as the adjustment are so fine that it is difficult to get the focus exactly right. Just move wheel a hair and it’s out of focus. I think the glass is decent, not exceptional and the focus issue makes them tough to work with when glassing terrain for game. But to keep in the truck to check out something over there in a field they work pretty good for me.
That’s my non expert opinion
