Thought I'd post a quick write up on the Area 419 magazine extensions for AI/Accurate mags. These are part of the amazing Area 419 products that are being brought in by Tom at Go Big Tactical. Area 419 is the real deal folks, the machining and finish is second to none. Below are a few pictures of the extensions and some observations.

I run these in a 6.5 CM. Normally AI/Accurate mags are over sprung when fully loaded, then a little sloppy when they get near the end. These mag extensions must be the right amount of travel for the spring as they now have consistent tension throughout the cycle. I can now get 16 rounds of 6.5 CM in a mag which is up from about 11-12 with stock mags. As I will mainly use these for PRS, running 16 rounds in a mag will nearly eliminate mag changes in a lot of the stages.

Opening the box, you are reminded that these are made in the US. Included is an Allen key for the set screw, simple instructions, and a sweet Area 419 sticker.

I opted for plain old black, more tactical that way. They come in a variety of different anodized colors with custom engraving options available.

Installation literally takes less than a minute. Remove stock floor plate on the mag, remove set screw from new extension, collapse mag spring/follower into the new extension and slide over mag body. Tighten down the set screw and you're ready to go

Finally, installed in the rifle. They do not hang down any further that the pistol grip making it a no brainer to add more rounds to your rig

For just over $60 CAN, these are a great addition to the competitive shooter. I expect to see these showing up at matches throughout the 2019 Canadian season.

Mag extensions are awesome. I use the Seekins/Core ones, not because I put extra rounds in them, but because it makes stripping the first and second rounds out of the magazine feel like butter.

The Area 419 ones seem good quality, just wish they weren't so butt ugly. The ribs don't flow with the lines of the magazine. I prefer a more sleek look, like the discontinued Seekins or MPA ones.

FYI
Do not install a mag extension on a 5 round mag and then insert it into a Cadex stock. They go in good, but you have to take the bottom apart (including pin for mag release) to get the mag out.

I am guessing the ribs flow in a way to give you traction when pulling the mag out of a mag pouch.

If that's the case, then they're not in the correct orientation for that purpose. And not really necessary, I've never had issues with grip with my non-ribbed mag extensions.

My guess is that their purpose is strictly aesthetic. Some people like it, some people don't. I'm in the latter camp. That said, if you can get past the aesthetics, it looks like a great quality product. Mag extensions are nice to have.
