Has anyone found away around or over the Mass. gun laws..so that USPSA members from outside the USA can compete in Matches in that state?
I don't understand exactly how a state law can trump a Federal law (form 6)
As long as you have an official invite you should be good to go.
Really? So the Area 7 championship is only open to MA residents? I live in NY, friends of mine regularly shoot in MA and they've been told they can't go. It can't be right.
Dear Canadian Resident,
It is with great regret and sadness that we must cancel your 2011 Area 7 Championship registration and return your match fee.
While the match staff does not provide legal advice, we cannot knowingly accept registrations from persons who may not legally possess a handgun within the state of Massachusetts.
We have been advised that the "competition exemption" provided by Massachusetts law is specifically limited to persons living in the US, and have confirmed this with the director of the Massachusetts Firearms Records Bureau. Enclosed is a copy of the relevant law so you can see for yourself. Please note this is a state law, and, as such, the possession of an approved BATFE Form 6 does not provide an exemption from Massachusetts limits on handgun possession.
We have also learned that the position of the state is that non-US residents are not eligible to apply for a Massachusetts firearms license, as they consider the term "alien" to apply only to persons living within the US.
We regret having to deliver this unfortunate news, and wish you the best for the shooting season.

Like Dinsdale pointed out; - it's not out of state but out of country (Foreigners) they can't allow in.![]()
Well that's f*7k*ng ridiculous. This is a sanctioned match something needs to be done about this. What are USPSA doing about it?
Completely agree! Combine the US DOS post-9-11 fear of foreigners and the anti-gun rhetoric of MA and...Well that's f*7k*ng ridiculous.

How is this law applied??
Is it legal for a Canadian to travel thru MA with a handgun as long as they have an approved Form 6NIA ??
I'm no lawyer - but I thought there was some federal interstate agreement that said "if it's legal where you started, and legal where you're going; so long as you don't stray from 'passing through' - you're OK." but I think I saw something in American Rifleman where the NRA said some states were considering ignoring that - New Jersey - I think was one of them. It's worth checking with some state trooper detachments BEFORE you hit the road, though.
