Had a great time at the Area 7 Championships in Rochester, NY. Took 3 hours or so each way. Crossing the border was very smooth both ways, just make sure to have all your paperwork and only tell them what they ask! it helps to have reddot sweet talk the Canadian customs hottie!

The match was very difficult, it consisted of allot of swingers and drop turners. I really need to find a way of practicing these. The match consisted of 10 stages, most were small speed shoots (with turners and steel) and long stages (allot of ways of shooting them).

Shooting with Angus Hobdell was pretty cool. He is a very nice guy and will help others with strategy and any questions. He is an amazing shot, his times in production matched or beat some open shooters! He had some mag problems but still managed to win the match.

For you CZ SP-01 shooters contact Angus for some parts! The trigger on his SP-01 is amazing. I was dry firing and could easily do a DA trigger pull without the sights moving! Its the nicest trigger i have felt. His had over 60,000 rds in it.

The match ran very smoothly and was very well organized. They used PDAs to keep score and IR the data to the server every so often. We could use the computers available to get up todate results. We really should look into this, it would save the stats guys allot of paperwork and time.

LOL, i would say 30-40% of the people attending were from Canada, it was like the pre provincials. Everybody knew each other, all crew from from Windor were out! I also met allot of great shooters, Travis Tomasie (the internet reload guy), Lee, JJ, Angus, Todd, etc...Some of the guys were really interested in coming to shoot the Nationals. Rumour has it that Angus will shoot the Nationals in Standard/Limited. :D

FWIW, they call it paste targets not patch...hm...:p

do they know about our mag laws/rules?
It would be really cool to watch some of the guys I have only seen on the internet and DVD's.

We had a pretty good time. The Saturday PM squad might as well been know as Canadian time since I think 75% we from Ontario. I was a little worried crossing the border just after the 17 knuckle heads in T.O were busted and especially when they started taking the car with NY plates in front of us apart! When we pulled up I handed our paperwork over and were on our way in 2 minutes flat. The weather was a nice change from last year’s heat, even if it was a little cold for June.

The match was pretty good I managed to get by with only 3 misses, 2 earned, one due to a poorly patched target (it looked like a hit but it was a half patched hole and I’m miffed because I had lots of rounds to spare in my mag at the time!)

I was grateful I shot Stage 10 first in my squad, so when we had the long climb up to stage 1, I shot last and had time to catch my breath. I would have been nice to have a shuttle there but I guess I’m spoiled from all those years shooting the AWARE.

Overall I finished 4th overall, 2nd A in Limited 10 not my best performance but a lot better than I did last year.

The Trip home was nice and crossing back into Canada was interesting, they wanted to send me in to “stamp” my paperwork (I have no idea why) but after I handed it over they decided to just send me on my way. And that was a good thing because it looked like they were having a “strip search your car” night there. Their must have been 10 cars in various amounts of contents strewn around them.

We headed home with only having to dodge a Lexus who for some reason wanted in my lane only to realize he need to be in another lane a mile down the road! (Who said money can buy brains!)

I was talking to the Area 7 Director and in about 1 month he will know where next years match is going to be held. Long Island is supposed to have it but the last time they only took it for one year instead of the customary two. If they do take it the Area 7 will be out of Western NY for 4 years!

Remember that USPSA production has no minimum trigger pull
Angus' gun would have been set up for that.

If you call Angus, make sure he understands you need to make the 5lb minimum for DA in IPSC so he knows how to set you up right.

The Pro Americans have been here before for a few of our bigger matches while we had the stupid 10 round law, ie. The Last North American Championship in Canada (was in BC) and Henning at last years' Nationals.

There was a good article in USPSA's Front Sight magazine last year explaining how they can come to Canada to shoot.

There have been veiled inquiries from Pros (Jarret, Walgreen, Grauffel) wanting to come to this year, but I'd put the odds in the area of 20%. They weigh the cost and hassle vs. US matches and their schedules.

I remember him from last year, hard to believe he has time to think when going that fast:eek:

the DA pull was around 5lbs and was smooth as silk!!

he just used his CZ parts and shot 60,000 rds to make it that way! hehe!

call me a miserable old sceptic, but I don't buy that (i.e. don't believe that his way of getting to a trigger like that was shooting 60,000 rounds and no other alternations).

maybe some polishing....mhahaha.

Realistically the trigger is only a small area that makes a great shooter. The great shooters can shoot any gun.
