i know these things are gimmicky but i had to pick one up!
tried it out today - oh my god did it make me laugh like a school girl!
bloody thing cleaned my sinus's out!
it truly does crank up the sound of a AR!
not only that but the fire it throws out and the concussive wave that it chucks is insane!!

next time i go to the range ill try to remember to take a video of it, thing is a hoot!
specially on a short AR, makes it sound like a 50 cal!!

I attended a full auto shoot in Albany OR.
A guy had a FA HK in .308 with a 5 inch barrel with a similar brake.
LOUD!

Why is this a thing lol

I'd suggest because some people haven't had to deal with a sonic beating on a regular basis. I have a 20" because as much as I'd like a shorter barrel I really dislike the concussion. That said I wonder how it would be on a 20" barrel as I'm considering a single chamber brake.

Yes, but unlike suppressors, loudeners are entirely legal in the People's Democratic Republic of Inoffensiveness - and anything that both irritates others and doesn't break the law is bound to develop a certain following.

And this contributes to ranges getting complaints and shut down by area residents.....

I am all for fun, but some things are unnecessary and potential detrimental to what we enjoy.

That said, Why not have a little fun provided you respect others at the range.
I won't shoot my big guns on busy days, as I know what hearing damage sounds like... not fun... so I keep my muzzle blast directed away from other shooters.

You'd best warn everyone around you when pulling up to the firing line with one of those. An unexpected case of even temporary hearing loss (which means some degree of permanent damage), is no funny "gotcha". Indeed, a deliberate sonic Assault is an Assault nonetheless and is liable to earn you a shot in the head or a kick in the nads from a pissed-off dude you just "got".

And then there are the club-killing noise complaints that get counties to pass "no discharge" bylaws....

Yeah, I'm a grumpy old kill-joy. My points stand regardless, on their own merits. Playing with hearing unsafe decibels is unwise in my books, but hey - you do you. Just have the common courtesy to warn the rest of us first, so that those of us with already marginal hearing can down tools and vacate the firing line while the noisy silliness ensues....
