Here is some pics of the type 38 Arisaka carbine I just got.
its in super nice shape. all the metal still has its blueing and the rifling is perfect. the mum has been ground off so I think I might just draw one back on just to smite the emperor!

anyone know who might have ammo for sale in 6.5x50? tradeex has nosler ammo for over $50. I don't want anything special just something to shoot.

awhile back someone asked the value of an Arisaka and they got all kinds of bad advice about them being worth $400-$600? and when I said to wait till you find one for a good price I got laughed at. I paid $200 for this gun because I waited. just because someone charges a lot for a gun does not mean it is worth it value wise. just know what a gun is worth and stick to it there is always more out there.
for values I usually check out gunbroker because they have such a big market. you can see what they bring there not just asking price but what people will actually pay.

That rifle is very nice. One of the nicest Type 38 Carbines I've seen. There looks to be glue between the butt pieces. Has it been refinished??? Also, without the MUM, I wouldn't have paid more than $200-$250 for it myself. IMHO, you paid fair value. I might have paid more for a canceled MUM but not ground. I think people just want to own one so bad they are willing to pay exorbitant premiums.

As far as ammo goes, it is hard to find. Norma ammo isn't really anything special, other than the brass is a dream to reload. Tradex has the brass by PRIVI for $85.

Get a set of LEE dies and away you go.

I didn't even check there brass out. thanks for the tip!

yes the stock has been all cleaned and sanded down at one point. if you take off the bands you can see under them the dark color it once was.

There's only one small problem - we can't buy at GB. Well, actually we can, but the price here would be very different. So comparing Canadian and US prices makes no sense. Fair market price is what ppl ready to pay and what you got with this carbine is bargain price, bummer for the sanded stock though. But should make good shooter.

Looks like a great rifle, I don't know much about the arisaka however. What exactly is a MUM?

A chrysanthemum was the symbol of the Japanese emperor. This was put on all rifles from the arsenal. At the end of the war the Japanese ground the mum's off the rifles they were surrendering to save the emperor's honor.
For the most part Japanese rifles with a mum on it are a veteran's bring back and therefore much more valuable and collectible.
