So my wife is going to a convention for her home based jewelry business in Scottsdale in July and I'm tagging along just for the holiday away.
I will gave a few days to kill while avoiding hordes if locket selling housewives and started googling things to do while I'm there.

Looks like Arizona has deregulated wild boar hunting. Does anyone here have experience with this in Arizona?
Any tips for finding a good guide would be appreciated.

From the little bit of looking I've done, javalina have a season and it will be long past by July.
They have opened up wild hogs like Texas though. I just can't seem to find any hunt info for them...

Arizona does not allow guided Hog hunts. They don't want any incentives to release hogs into the wild to create paid hog hunting like they have in Texas. Huntable populations exist in the Havasu area and in the Lake Mud area up by Lake Mead, all of which are quite a ways from Phoenix. No license is required to hunt, you can hunt night or day and bait. There are effectively no restrictions on hunting this pest animal.

As to the Javelina, there are guides available for hunting these and there is excellent hunting available. The rifle season on them is very short most years. Usually only a couple of weeks in Feb.

Hunting hogs in July would qualify as a miserable proposition given the areas they live in the temp will be over 120 F at that time of year. I just got back and the temps are over 90 already. I would be looking at indoor, air conditioned, or in the water recreation opportunities if I had to be down there that time of year.

Dean. Thanks for the reply. I know the javalina hunt ended in February and looks like it was only about a week long. And I guess that explains why I can't find a guided hog hunt either.
As far as the weather, hunting was actually plan B anyway. My first, an probably best idea is to sit by, and or in the pool and keep the rum coming while the wife is in her jewelry business meetings. Lol.

Javelina are not related to hogs, wild or otherwise. Think large rodent.

They are in the same sub order. Its like new world/old world monkeys. They are different species but to say they aren't related is a bit of a stretch. Not really close to rodents at all. The only large rodent I can think of down south is the Coypu which loves destroying parts of Louisiana.

While hunting isn't a real option in July, there are lots of other viable fun things to do. There are a number of indoor and outdoor ranges that accept guests for a fee. Most of the outdoor ones you need your own guns but many of the indoor are hooked to a retail outlet that will rent you a gun. Fun places to go if you want to blast off some caps and try some different types of guns. The indoor ones are air conditioned so you can go there any time of the day and be comfortable.

Phoenix also has a ton of great golf courses and if you do the sunrise tee off thing the weather will stay decent usually for at least 9 holes.

There are also some great sport venues with Basket ball, Baseball and football games on during the day, in air conditioned comfort.

If you rent a car don't do it at the hotel. You can get a car direct from Hertz for about $130 a week, the hotel will try to charge you that much a day. With the car you can do some inexpensive touring, shopping etc.

There are more than enough choices that it keeps a guy from getting cabin fever sitting around the hotel if you are down there for more than a couple of days.

The family and I just made it back from AZ. Spent a few days out in Yuma, and then the balance back in the Phoenix area. wicked trip! The area was in bloom, and the temps in the high 80s/low 90s.

Check out C2 Tactical (Tempe) and the Scottsdale Gun Club for indoor fun (M249 at SGC was a "blast"). There are a mittfull of gun shops to oogle and dream of purchasing from.

As a transportation note, the Interstates in the urban areas can be a bit hectic, we were usually running 75(rated) to 90 MPH with the traffic flow. Makes it interesting when you are not familiar with the areas or off ramps. Good thing the rental BMW had a good navigation system on board.

Have fun!
