Okay, Armacoat I've tried to get through TSE for about a month now. First guy was useless and directed me to a dead website then offered no help. Second person said she had to contact Barret Arms (sp?) for info and would get back to me. That was about 2 weeks ago. (I know it's a bad season for service but...)
Duracoat: Blackcat Coatings directed me to Lauer Custom Weaponry.
Great! they have Duracoat, can ship to Canada so I order but receive no final invoice, no shipping information...

Any other sources. I've tried searching but these are usually the places mentioned.
Particularly if anyone knows of anywhere around Vancouver that I could just go a get the stuff. It's for an Aluminum receiver so if there is an alternative, perhaps something automotive, that anyone has had good experiences with, that info would be appreciated too.

Thanks

I read on another post that he was busy with the move and directed someone else to TSE so that's why I didn't contact him.
Thanks. And to ZuluMike, thanks alot, I will try Barret Arms directly myself.
Anyone know where I could see colours and product sizes so I can order appropriately? I could find this info for Duracoat but not Armacoat.

I have been trying to contact Barret Arms for information for you guys...I have had no luck. The only way I am able to contact them is through email. I have asked for some information on how to apply the coating as well as some color pallets. I will continue to contact BA and will keep you guys informed. Sorry for the delay.

Was talking to Murdoc,at lest I believe it was,on Thurs. or Fri..I actually caught him on his cell. The office will be closed until the 2nd.You can contact him then.I,too am get info and colours as well as an info package ,sounds like a great product.

I have used Duracoat and Armacoat with great success. Duracoat will ship to Canada via UPS. I would recommend either one. Armacoat is Canadian, Duracoat has a greater colour selection. The choice is yours.

I've used it on two projects, a Jungle Carbine that I got severely bubba'd up, as well as my father's Ruger #1 Tropical .375 H&H seen below. I used matte black and clear for my projects.

Armacoat seems like great stuff to me, just a few things to remember: if you spray too close or with too much pressure then "matte" becomes "gloss"; and the stuff actually takes much longer to reach full hardness than stated (even with proper mixture) - unless you can bake it for twice as long as they say at the right temperature, I'd consider Armacoating an early winter project so you can hang your gun in a closet or something for an honest two months. In spite of that I plan to do do much more myself...

Duracoat is the goods. Outstanding finish and better for someone doing it their self. No baking required, you can use it after 24 hrs but to cure properly requires 2-3 weeks if the firearm is to be exposed to extreme use. Black Cat Coatings in St. Albert is the Cdn Dist. but from what I hear they are ceasing due to lack of interest in the product in this country.

I have purchased Duracoat from Lauer Custom Weaponry and received invoice and shipping info no prob but they ship via UPS and that ####ing brokerage fee hoses you every time. I will not order again from LCW unless they ship an altrenate route.

I have used Duracoat for long time, i was their first dealer in Canada but like EC tell, shipping was too expensive so i drop them. I now use armacoat, i also sell armacoat and the paint is AT LEAST AS GOOD as duracoat, if not better. Unfortunately, i'am now out of Armacoat stuff, few color left only, my new gunsmith shop is nearly finished and will have to buy large quantity of paint in january for my stock...

If you whant a VERY flat finish, using a HVLP gun can't be beat..., you need HIGH air pressure and LOW material setting, if you whant something more glossy, lower the air pressure and rise the material setting...

I called Lauer today and it turns out that my order just got "set aside" due to the holidays and it's back on track. Because of the wait I asked about air shipping..ha almost $130 on and $80 order.... So slow boat it is...

I definitely hope to buy in Canada next time. As said, UPS from the US blows!

Good news guys, for those who have been awaiting an answer in regards to Armacoat, I have received a call today....They were away for 2 weeks hence not getting a hold of him....he has advised me that he will be sending me an information sheet and color paletts. He hopes to have this to me within a day or 2 so if you want info PM me with your email addy and I'll fire it off as soon as I receive it..

Great little pattern generator, and some excellent 'how to' pages.

I used Armacoat from Barret Arms and am very pleased with it. I used a few different colors mixed to make my own shades of tan, etc. Built an oven to cure it and it seems very durable. They also have templates, I think, I used digital ones. Very pleased with the whole thing, and he gives lots of tips to help as well.
