I am looking to add a Np29 into my collection but im not sure which way to go about this. I have considered 2 options:

A) Purchase Armco tuned NP29 - I have heard they shoot and perform like $1200 kimbers

B) Purchase a regular one from Canadaammo and upgrade it myself

I am looking to swap the following parts into my NP29

Wilson Combat Adjustable Trigger...15.95
Titanium Strut...14.55
Wilson Value Hammer...23.95
Wilson Value Sear...14.95
Nowlin Recoil spring(16 or 18.5)..4.70
Nowlin HD firing pin spring...1.89
Nowlin Hammer Spring...1.87
Nowlin Match grade sear spring...4.59
Total for parts= 82.45

The problem is i do not have any experience stripping my pistol and fitting these new parts...

This pistol will be used for future 3 gun competitions hence the upgrades :)

Armco would be my advice. 1911s are not about swapping parts...to improve a 1911, the parts need to be fitted by someone who knows what they are doing.

Parts are not interchangeable like on a modern pistol. You can get that list of parts, and put them in the gun. But there is no guarantee that function will be improved.

A really nice third option might be to contact Armco and ask how much they'd charge to do their standard tune on an NP29...with new parts already installed. If they give you a flat rate of $150, say, to get it all sorted...get a box of Wilson Combat parts, get them into the gun, and send it off. You will have a stormer of a pistol for dirt cheap.

Huh so install the parts myself then get someone to fit them for me...?
I might contact armco or other gunsmiths and see if i can ship the pistol along with parts and get them to install it for me.

Nope - the parts of a 1911 are like a 3D puzzle they have to fit in their location (the easy bit) and they have to fit and be fitted to each other (the bit that takes both skill AND experience) some parts work well with each other, some parts don't - nothing wrong with the part, just incompatible with another part that it should work with, or compatible but using it is going to provide less than a full service life. You'd be better off emailing Gunnar and asking what he recomends as far as parts go, and how much he'd charge to put them in an NP29 for you.

Gunnar and Clarence are on the ball and honestly it is still winter so..., go the Armco route they do great work and are overall fantastic to deal with, good luck. ;)

What do you think of the idea, though, say of doing an all Wilson Combat internals Norinco? If someone sent you a 1911 with all WC internals, would it be a similar amount of work for you to make it into a smooth running machine as with stock internals, or would that be a lot more work?

Basically I am trying to ballpark the cost here. I haven't got a ton of faith in Norinco small parts, myself. But a Norinco frame with all Bulletproof internals...now that is right up my alley.

Gee, I sure can't disagree with that :) AND turnaround is about a week...

You really don't need a bunch of fancy parts either...those Norc pieces are as a rule very well heat treated, if a tad roughly finished...

Gunnar :)

Hey Gunnar!

Im not saying the norc parts are bad, i just want a smoother functioning pistol. My original plan was to swap in an aftermarket adjustable trigger, but after talking to a few guys, they told me to replace springs, sears, ... list goes on.

From the looks of it, im leaning towards getting the armco np29 :)
