I've noticed Armco's site is selling tuned up Norcs. How much of an improvement are these over a factory straight Norc ?

From my own experience (I've owned one of each, tuned and untuned) they make a huge difference, they're smoother, will feed anything, more accurate and have an amazingly nice trigger. My Armco tuned Compact has over 6,000 rounds through it, and hasn't had any failures of any type, it's also accurate enough to put 8 rounds into the head of a B27 target at 25 yards. Given that you're really only paying the cost of the trigger job, they're a great deal. I couldn't see myself asking much more (practically speaking) out of a gun that cost 2 or 3 times as much - you get the accuracy and dependability of a Kimber or Colt with the ruggedness and low cost of a Norc.

Big difference! That is the main reason I purchase from Armco. For the slight increase, you don't have to send it out later & pay more for shipping & waiting on your gun second time around. It also makes for a more pleasurable gun to shoot. I have bought two tuned Norks & would do it the same way if Buying another.....

You can't go wrong & some folks prefer them if you ever want to sell....:)

Happy shooting!

How are they with reloads ? Do they handle lead bullets well or do they need copper bullets to function well ?

If my Norkies weren't so accurate and reliable (with round head reloads) in stock form, I'd go for an Armco tune. The triggers on my Norks are slowly improving, I don't compete and if ever, have no plans on competing with a .45...so the rough triggers on new Norks are not an issue.

If you don't mind spending a little cash...sure go for the Armco tune. Make sure you're happy with the turn around time though.

:agree:

I sent my Norc to Armco for their Norinco Prep deal...definitely worth it. Not only did Gunnar improve the trigger pull, he also solved some issues with the grip safety and mag release, as well as replacing the sear. He took several months to do this [and required a few reminders] but to be fair, I had told him I was in no hurry.

Purchasing one of the tuned Norincos Armco has in stock is probably the best way to go...no wait time for those.

I was wondering what the accuracy potential was of a tuned norinco and I think you answered my question. Now if I only knew what the diameter of a b27 targe was I would get what you are talking about!

Anyone else care to share the size of your best groups with these pistols?

That's pretty much all I shoot in my Norc Commander. 200gr LSWC.

M

Me too - mine has at least 4,000 200 LSWC through it. As far as the head of a B27 - that's the standard black silhouette target, and that was shot standing unsupported. Shooting from a rest, mines just one largish hole (big bullets big holes - :D) - assuming I do my bit.

I have a Norc 1911-A1 .45 that the previous owner said was ARMCO tuned, it feels pretty good and eats everything I feed it. It has been 100% reliable so far on my reloads (200gr lead round nose) and is pretty accurate with everyhting I've tried so far.
My untouched Norc NP-29 seems to have a better trigger though, I bought it new around 15 years ago and it only has around 1000 rounds through it. I think I just lucked out on that one though.

I would look for a used one that has been tuned by ARMCO or just order one of the tuned ones off his site. It seems to make enough of a difference to be worth the extra few dollars.
