Gentlemen, how are you today? I was wondering if there are some knowledgeable gun smiths out there that may be able to answer a question regarding armourers wrenches. I own a Magpul wrench and so far have only been able to use it to torque a castle nut on my brothers rifle. I own a Daniel Defense hand guard, it uses proprietary barrel nut and tool. I have a Knight Arm URX ii and it is the same story as the DD, proprietary barrel nut and tool. Recently I picked up a Spikes tactical SAR 13 rail and here is the problem....... The Magpul wrench has a 7 pin barrel nut tool on it and the Spikes requires a " standard USGI 3 pin barrel nut tool " Here is the question. When you look at the 7 pin design, if I grind off the corresponding pins of 1, 3, 5, and 7, leaving basically a 3 pin tool, is the spacing between the pins on those two tools the same dimensionally? Or do they have a different offset between the pins?
