Armour for three-gun?

Some fellow shooters I know asked me questions about body armour, a subject that I am professionally familiar with, after providing the information I then asked "Why". Their response was its required for some three gun matches.

This seems fishy to me, and I look at it as improper range safety if you need armour. I've done some searches for local ranges and organizations, but cannot find reference to this.

Does anyone know of a shooting organization, range, or association that requires body armour for shooting matches and is this documented on their website. Trying to do my due diligence before telling my friends to stay away because they just found the local mall-ninja association, but... I also may be wrong.
 
Never heard of a single sport or range that requires armor outside of police ranges. In CQB matches and some three gun matches a lot of guys are running chest rigs or plate carriers but there's no requirement for plates or armor.

NOW, (4 match's later for me) that rule has since been changed to "recommended". As we shoot on mostly steel targets, there is always the possibility of "splash back" from a round.
PPE is required, saftey glasses, hearing protection, etc. We are just trying to make a league to shoot in with Safety & Fun as top priorities. You should come out to a monthly meeting to get all the facts. We hope to have a web site for the league up soon, for now its just word of mouth.

FYI. The most "dangerous" part of the shoot/match I've found is the B.S. session in between stages with the girls and boys.:D

Interesting rule considering that many places, and even some provinces, do not allow body armor to be sold to civilian folk

As part of the Exec for one of the 3 Gun Clubs in the Edmonton area, that no, you do not need body armour to shoot at any of our match's.

Sorry, forgot to mention which league I shoot in. CHAS Tri-Gun.

I have a plate carrier I use for molle pouches for 3 gun rife and shotgun portions. I don't have plates in it but just out of curiosity is it ok to buy plates in Ontario? And where do you get them? I bet they are expensive.
