HY, I don't want give you the wrong impression but these mounts are not very good , there is Jamming issues and mounting is very simple and easy. The problem is the mount does not keep a near zero when removed , and reinstalled. The rear mounting dovetail system , where a single allan screw to keep the mount secure is not enough to secure any optic from loosing zero. MCANN Industries makes a better more secure Mount.

The ARMS #18 scope mount was designed to be permanently attached to the rifle. The rail is low enough to allow the use of the iron sights when installed so if the scope is mounted in QD rings there is no requirement to remove the base. "No one" edit to read "I am not claiming" this is the best mount on the market but it is an excellent mount and we have hundreds of very satisfied customers.

John the ARMS 18 is a good mount but I was amused by your comment in this thread that:

"No one claims this is the best mount on the market but it is an excellent mount and we have hundreds of very satisfied customers"

You should read your own ad at http://www.wolverinesupplies.com/details/4066/ARMS-18-M2114-Scope-Mount.aspx - which states:

".... this foundation has maintained its reputation as being the best mounting systems for the M21/14 Rifle"<unquote>

What gives?

John my side screw has been re-drilled and tapped to 1/4 inch. This was done because my side screw was neither the proper imperial or metric size from the Chinese factory.

Would it be possible to have my gun sent in for a proper side screw to be fashioned if I bought one of these mounts?

Hayday, you have caught me out! Please allow me to correct my previous statement to read that "I am not claiming" rather than "no one". Personally I have not used all the currently available M14 mounts but I do know the ARMS # 18 to be an excellent mount, I have used both it and Springfield mounts on my NM M1A which I purchased 33 years ago, she is still a great favorite of mine.

I have had this mount for over 6 years, at least 700 rds. and it works great.
It is very solid but heavy.
I have never needed to remove it and remount it though.
As John says Quick Detachable Mounts.
YMMV

You haven't taken your bolt out in 6 years?

I take mine out like at least every year just for a full body lubing (with ###y music)

happy ending too

Sweet I'll do that now, thanks.

We've spoken in the past but every time you always pass me off to Wolfgang, and that's teh same name of my old abusive step-father so I cry after I get off the phone :(

I have this mount on my Springfield M1A and I like it alot. It sits low on the reciever which in turn makes scope sit lower and my cheek rest isn't too high. I use Leupold QRW rings so I can go to irons if need be. I found an article Lee Emerson wrote,M14 Scope Mount FAQ, which had a few tips on how to install th ARMS18 mount. In particular is the reciever groove spec on some rifles, anyway, just sayin I would buy another one. I don't have any trouble with brass jamming up the bolt, ejects fine,no problems with reloads, factory and surplus.

Re: You haven't taken your bolt out in 6 years?

Dear Rocket Surgery,
Once the op. rod is removed there is a whole lot of play for the bolt to move fore and aft and cleaning can be done - although certainly not as thoroughly and it does work great for me.
Federal 150 gr. FMJ = 1.5 MOA

In the Springfield Manual on page 27 it states, "...the frequency of disassembly and assembly should be kept to a minimum...causes excessive wear of the parts and leads to their early unserviceability and to inaccuracy of the rifle." Further with regard to those NM & Super Match rifles "...please do not field strip your match rifle unless it is absolutely necessary" due to the glass bedding etc.

I hope this clears up any misunderstandings.
All the best.
