arms #18 shifted offset?

A buddy of mine has an arms #18 on his m14s, synth stock, and recently it looks like the mount has shifted so that the scope is no longer in line with the barrel, even though the mount is still completely tight?

He cranked the windage all the way over and it was still not enough, and only then did we notice that the scope was offset enough that it was noticeable with the naked eye. We tried loosening it off and re-tightening it, taking turns on the order of tightening, but every time it would cinch up into its offset position. We ended up shimming it against the receiver to get it more or less in line. The arms #18 instructions may or may not be long gone.

This rifle/mount combo has shot many hundreds of rounds through it happily, and nothing really changed in the setup before this occurred.

Any ideas? Anyone else had this happen?

Did the scope itself looked in line with the mount?? With the barrel???? Did the scope take any kind of a hit that would bend it???

Try pulling the scope off of the mount and then see how the mount lines up.

Sometimes a clear unobstructed view of the mount is better to see actual alignment.

Run a thin string from the front sight blade (checking to ensure that it is centered) back to the center of the reciever (use the rear sight windage markings as your guide).

If the mount/rail looks good, then something happened to the scope. If it got banged, the tube body might have gotten bent or their might be an internal problem.

If the mount is off, you will have to shim it somehow.I have never come across one that didn't line up properly.

Hard to assess without actually seeing the rifle/mount/scope.

I bent a cheap Bushnell falling threw the ice( rifle was mounted to me by way of a three point sling) it looked like I bent the barrel, but do as Skulldude said run a line I bet and it won't take much of a bend to #### that scope up good you could also use a cleaning rod and lay it along side of the mount on both isde to see if the mount is out

The scope looks in line with the mount (as in the scope is straight, the mount is off). When the scope is taken off, you can see that the mount is cockeyed. We bummed some tools at the range and tried to see if we could straighten it, but every time we snugged it back up it went back cockeyed. We ended up shimming it with a staple (which actually worked like a charm for that range session).
In any case, it's apparently now in the hands of Shane at Reliable. I'll post back his conclusion when I see my buddy next.

I just installed mine and I have the same problem, I loosened off the stripper clip allen key and could move the mount freely, got her half assed straight and tightened it back up. Don't know if this is the propper way of doing things, but my scope was WAY off once it was mounted.
