Took my Norc to the Poco range on Sat. morning to sight in my scope that i had recently mounted using an ARMS #18 scope mount.....lucky me the process only took 10 to 15 minutes with someone spotting and after that i was ringing the gong pretty much at will......i did happen upon a weird jam in which the casing got caught between the mount and the bolt.....it only happened once out of probably 80 to 90 rounds.....is this common with the low profile mount....is there any concern here and any remedy?

second question....is it possible to mount a weaver type rail to the chu wood Norc stock to which a bid can attach a bipod....preferably a quick release type?

Cheers

  1. Bolt jamming do to a trim job to the extractor and ejector spring's M14Doctor does this all the time.
  2. Rob at Tartin Tactical make's excatley what you are looking for. PM him for details Robmcleod82.

I can't speak to the jamming issue but I have never seen it happen.

For mounting a bi-pod you might be better off screwing a sling stud into the wood. You can get them in different lengths depending on how thick the wood is and a Harris bi pod takes seconds to take off.

I have this happen with my M14 and ARMS 18 mount also. Once a trip to the range maybe? Not sure, but often enough that I have noticed it.

Satain, not sure what you mean by a trim job to the extractor? Are you saying there is an easy way to fix this, or do I need to file a bit of metal off the mount, so as the brass doesnt catch? Details! Lots of Details! I'm all ears.

Yep I think it's 2 coils that need to be trimed off. I would contact M14Doctor though to be a 100% sure though.

It is common with the Norinco's to trim the extractor springs.

I ground out a spot & used epoxy to securely mount a Harris stud on my stock, but I find the P.O.I changes significantly when switching from the bipod to other shooting stances.

I would suggest trying Tartan’s set up.

The ARMS stove pipe issue has been a common problem...............trimming/tuning the extractor spring solves this issue...............

if you are thinking of mounting a bipod stud to the Chu wood stock, be warned that the wood is very soft.............I have used a stud with a that is secured with a nut and made a thin metal backing plate so you don't crush the soft wood...............

wrt the jamming issue, you CAN trim the springs, but the cadillac solution is to swap the springs for M1A or USGI. This also solves the issue.

Personally, i prefer the USGI springs over the M1A springs given a choice.

You need to shorten the Norinco extractor spring by 2 coils and the Norinco ejector spring by 3 coils if you don;t replace them outright. A dremel cut-off wheel works well.
