I posted the below in response to a post from General. I go in that forum very little, and usually hunt down the specific info in the corresponding forum. I recently purchased a firearm from one of our site sponsors, and figured I would share here as the product is less know, and I appreciate this sponsor for having them available:

For 28 years I have been using what I consider to be the best grouse shotgun around...the 28 Gauge.

Although ammo is scarce in comparison, you can get great hunting loads for $15 a box. Thanks Calgary Shooting center.

The 28 gets you a gun as light as a .410 as lots of common models are built on the same frame. The 28 has taken many a ruffy and spruce grouse on the wing and the results were always decisive. My little SxS has been on many adventures, and slain many a grouse. This replaced my Spanish made .410 dbl hammer gun. I always found the little .410 a little lacking with heavy brush, or shots much over 20 yards. Solid for sitting birds, but things get iffy when they are flying or running through brambles.

This year, I decided to equip the wife with a shotgun as she has been taking an interest in my shotgun as I started her on rimfires and she has been successful.

She seen a Weatherby 20 gauge and loved it, however I couldn't justify the sticker price on a Turkish shotgun. Not only paying the Weatherby premium, but the LGS seems to still sell guns despite being consistently 10-15% higher than almost everywhere else.

I went home and discovered the Armsan Cre8 at Trade-ex.

Reviews were all positive so I decided to order one. Wow what a delight! 5-5.5 lbs, and reliable! Shoulders well, and hits POA. The small frame is perfect for my wife's 5'7" slender build. She learns quickly. I took her out, patterned the shotgun so she could see how they differ from a rifle. I showed her proper hold and stance, and let her just work the little shotty to familiarize herself. She picked up on it right away, and on her first hunt, she took 7 grouse, and snatched the last one out of the air on me as she fired a split second before me and all I saw at my shot was a nose diving bird just short of my swing.

I can't say enough good about this little shotgun. The value for $ is pretty amazing. And the 28 gauge? The best kept "secret" when it comes to grouse hunting. If you have never shot one, it really must be done to believe how effective such a small bore really is, while staying ridiculously light with very little recoil.
