Back in the old days when military surplus rifles were so numerous and good commercial guns expensive. FWIW, I've fired many thousands of aimed shots at paper targets with converted P'14/M'17 rifles.

Douglas barrel in 280 Remington added, Bold Trigger and Bishop stock.
Super accurate to 500 and beyond

In my case the donor action was from an already modified ( by BSA) action that suffered a catastrophic barrel failure
