At a garage sale, I found 3 shell casings from a guy who says he took them from the ship he served on while he was in the navy, 30 years ago.
I think he said they were from a 3 in 50 calibre Mark 3 Model 3.
He was selling them for $2 each, and I figured the melt value of the brass alone has got to be close to $20 (each weighing in at about 7lbs).
No doubt, there's bound to be some military buffs who would want a collectors piece as a reminder of their time in basic training having to polish a similar such shell.
Anyone have any idea of how much one of these thing's might be worth?
It looks like this one, but not nearly in as good of shape and slightly shorter (they're dinged up a bit and there's some holes drilled through the headstamp and case neck - I think to prevent it from being reloaded).
