I think it pretty much says it all. I'm new to reloading and someone at a gunshow suggested I use this type of powder with ftx 160 gr bullets, but I can't find the loads for the FTX.

The closest I could find was 28.7 gr. starting load and 30.5 max for a 150gr bullet, but I don't know how to adapt it to a 160gr load.

Thanks

JP

Anyone?

I've been told how to get from 150 gr to 160 gr loads, but I would like to know if you can achieve good results with it or what's the best powder to use with this bullet. I'm suspecting 3031 is not :p

25.8gr 1800
26.8gr 1900
27.9gr 2000
28.4gr 2050
28.9gr 2100 ( max load)

Check Hornady website for all recipes they tested for this load
i use it, allows for the most fps with the least amount of grains

A classical load for the 30-30 is 30 grains of 3031 with a 170 grain bullet.
That load has proven safe and accurate in a great many Winchester 94s, Marlins, etc.

Hang tight and play, but the Leverevolution powder is supposed to be available in Jan 11......probably later up here.

I have played with the FTX in 356 win. You can't use loads for the same weight in conventional bullets. There seems to be more surface contact with bore, longer bullet. I would follow Hornadys suggestions from their data site. If IMR 3031 is not listed there is a reason, it is a VERY popular powder for the 30-30.

True. I'll keep searching, there's an hornady retailer close to here I'll ask them.
Althought someone tryed it and seems to have good results. If I can't find the info I might just try with small loads and then safely increase.

I use 32 grains of 3031 with 150 grain Hornady BTSP - it is in my Savage 24 over under so I have no need for a flat nose bullet due to the single shot. I am grouping 1.5 inches at 100 yards with a 4x scope.
