Got the call today, my long awaited shipment from wolverine showed up at my local gun store! (long story behind that but another time perhaps).
Initial thoughts...
Finish-
Not a huge fan really... They are flat gray and scratch easily, ASC mags are listed on there website as being stainless steel so it's not like they will ever rust but still... I think I will be sending the mag body's in with another project for some armacoating.
Fit-
Yup it's a AR mag... It slides in and locks firmly with allmost no rattle and no interference from the rivet and the bolt hold open on my XCR and CQ seem to work just fine with them... My mags are pinned at 5.75 rounds, with 5 snap caps the mags seat and lock very nicely HOWEVER when the mag is empty and the bolt is closed it takes a firm pull to open the bolt, I think my XCR's bolt drags across the follower but will fiddle with that later.
UPDATE 12-11-2011
Function-
After a rather chilly range trip today i have a few thoughts on the function of these mag's...
* They load very well, infact i think alot of XCR owners can relate to haveing to trim a coil or two off the factory 5/10 C-products mag's and still have a issue with mags not seating/stripping the first round, well worry no more! after running all 6 of the ASC mags thru my XCR on a closed bolt several times i dident have a single issue! slap/rack/bang atleast 4 times with every mag... No doubt directly related to the generous pinning, as i said before they are pinned at 5.75 rounds.
* Kiss the lip's... with a file that is... 2 of my mag's have a very tight gap between the lip's on the top so when you try pushing rounds straight down onto the follower you need to move the round ahead just a hair or the lip's wont allow the round thru... I load all my mags with a AR Maglula so its not an issue for me but it is a slight QC issue.
* I know i said it before but i will say it again... The finish on these mags suck, If your worried about the look of them then get them armacoated or something... i dont mind them that much because they work as well as they do but i know some folks out there might get a bit wound up about this little issue.
All in all i give em a 8 outta 10... get em while you still can!
